From vivid self-portraits to striking photographs to exquisitely detailed ceramics, delights for the senses abounded last week at our annual Art Show, where we spent an evening reveling in the works of our art students.
Afterwards, we were treated to thoughtful (and frequently hilarious) reflections from four seniors on their time at Commonwealth, reminding us to embrace failure, find the humor in each situation, and close read everything we can.
Our deepest thanks to our art teachers—Caleb Colpitts, Derin Korman, and Kyla Toomey—for their work last week and throughout the year.

Train Club recently took to the streets (tracks?) for a “Battle for Boston,” competing to complete challenges in the greatest number of Boston neighborhoods within four hours. From Back Bay to Brookline, Charlestown to Chinatown, these train enthusiasts covered an impressive amount of ground—and had a blast in the process!
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week (and Day)! We are eternally grateful for the generosity, care, and expertise that Commonwealth’s teachers share with our students each and every day.
Make sure to thank a teacher this week!

Following her first-place wins at the school and state levels earlier this year, Chloe ’27 recently travelled to New York City to compete in the National ESU Shakespeare Competition. After a weekend that included theater workshops with professional actors and a Broadway show, Chloe took the stage at Lincoln Center, making it through to the final round and placing in the top ten students nationally.
Brava, Chloe!

For over ten years, Commonwealth students, chaperoned by Ms. Haber, have volunteered their time to support Prison Book Program, a Quincy-based nonprofit that supplies incarcerated people with interest-specific books and reading materials. This past week, the organization featured Commonwealth, highlighting our history with PBP and reflections from some of our students on how their volunteer work has shifted their perspectives.
Kudos to the many students who volunteer throughout the year, and especially to Ms. Haber for her continued leadership!

Caro loves comics. She’s tracked the evolution of legacy franchises from their humble, pulpy beginnings to worldwide juggernauts. She gets lost poring over new titles in bookstores and libraries where, she argues, the physical medium makes it easier to connect with an artist and their work.
As leader of Commonwealth’s Comic Art Club, Caro encourages her fellow students to create and support each other in developing new works. And, of course, she draws comics herself, exploring themes like the hollow echo of AI-generated “art” (and winning Scholastic Art awards along the way).
Interning with the Harvard Square Business Association, she recently put her artistic talents to work by creating a comic book outlining the history, current plight, and potential future of Harvard Square's Old Stone Wall, one of the oldest feats of engineering in Cambridge. (Check out the comic book here: https://harvardsquare.com/the-wall-on-winthrop-st/).
Keep reading to learn more about her artistic ethos, plus the new book in our library you need to check out, why “we should all get to be more stupid,” the exact moment she knew she had to come to Commonwealth, and how Labubu collectible plushies might be harbingers of economic collapse…:https://bit.ly/426SQzE
