This scholarship seeks to honor the life of Joseph A. Venuti by supporting aspiring marine science students so they can cover their educational expenses. Any student who is majoring in marine science with a focus on the conservation of reef environments may apply for this scholarship.

Joe was an early mentor and supporter of the Boston Reefers Society. As a pioneer in the Greater-Boston marine scene, his business supplied ornamental fish to the New England Aquarium and many others on the east coast. Joe facilitated introductions to key figures in the industry.

Beyond his connection to the industry, Joe was the first one to administer new advice to the budding hobbyist; a generous guy that would give you the shirt off of his back. He was well ahead of his time and has influenced many a hobbyist and set the course for the Boston Reefers Society as an educational organization.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors along with the Boston Reefers Society’s membership, we are offering a single $5000.00 Scholarship to a deserving Marine Science Student.
