On May 14, we wrapped up this season of with North Bennet Street School alumni Kolin Schmidt CF ’21 and Mitchel Gundrum BB ’21 who offered fresh, grounded and timely perspectives on how to price one’s work. As we navigate tariffs and broader financial unease—especially as craftspeople—this topic has never been more crucial. Both Kolin and Mitchel create and sell products while offering services, and they shared what they’ve learned about building their brands through the lens of pricing.

One of the displays in our 2026 Exhibition: Disciplines Across Decades a set of items pictured in a historic photo from the early days of the Piano Technology program after it was founded in 1946. (Including the actual bench and models in the middle of the photo!)

Many classes have recreated the photo for fun, but this year's Advanced Piano Technology cohort tried again and was particularly spot on!

Here's another group from the 2010 class. Did your class recreate this photo?

Stop by the exhibition, on view until July 1: https://hubs.la/Q04j6f9m0

Community Thank You: As we look ahead to another summer of Teen Craft & Trade Intensives, we wanted to thank an organization whose support is crucial for the programs - the Cummings Foundation!

These intensives for high schoolers to gain hands-on trade and craft exposure are made possible due to a remarkable grant from Cummings, which allowed NBSS to give out scholarships to students who needed them, plus support the work involved in launching a new initiative. Thank you for your continued support!
