Part 2: 4 Tuesdays beginning Nov 17
1–2pm ET · Live on Zoom + replays
A well-chosen image can help us become more aware, more efficient, and even more expressive in how we move. And for many people, simply remembering the image later brings the whole lesson back.
In this new two-part series, Deborah Bowes guides Awareness Through Movement® lessons that each explore an image or metaphor:
the spine as a chain
a clock on the back
a ball traveling around the room
flying
a candelabra
a dead bird
a prayer
knots in the crotches
The use of imagery has a rich history in somatic education. Moshe Feldenkrais drew inspiration from the work of other pioneers, including Mabel Todd and her groundbreaking use of anatomical imagery. Todd’s student at Columbia University, Lulu Sweigard, further developed this approach as Ideokinesis, or neuromuscular re-education. Teachers who continued to explore and develop this lineage include André Bernard, Eric Franklin, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Irene Dowd, and others. Each approach is distinct, yet all invite a deeper conversation between mind and movement.
Come explore how images can support the way you move, think, sense, feel and imagine.
Who is this for?
• These lessons are appropriate for all and do not require previous experience with the Feldenkrais Method.
• Feldenkrais practitioners will find many ideas to improve their practice, self-use and work with clients and students.
