“Soft Spine” by Spiritbox using the
new Courtney LaPlante vocal plugin from MixWave! I was stoked when I got asked to try this, and it delivers! Right away I enjoyed how the compressor glued my vocals together in a satisfying way without sounding artificial or too much. All the effects sections sound awesome and are real versatile. Being able to organize the modules in the order I prefer was a big plus, and the pre and post sections tie it all together tor me. There're enough controls for me to dial things in detail my way, yet simple enough for vocalists and engineers just starting out to get a great feel for things too. It can be straight forward and real in the ways I like, or a total vibe machine. This is the first all-in-one vocal plugin I could actually see myself using for myself Renesans and other projects, and it makes me excited for the future of vocal processing out here ~ dB

Jake’s vocal performance on the new August Burns Red album Season of Surrender is so sick and I had the pleasure of working with him while he was in the studio tracking the record. Jake was recently a guest on my podcast Behind The Screams and here’s a clip of the lesson I taught during the outro that gives a bit of insight on one of the things we talked about during the process 🎤

Getting to be part of the creation of so many amazing records is one of the biggest highlights of my job as a vocal coach, hearing product of the hard work in its final mixed form after dissecting the vocals to the very core. Season of Surrender SLAPS and if you haven’t had it in rotation, you should change that right now!

Danny Case of From Ashes to New discusses their new record “Reflections”, the process of making the album, shares some personal stories connected to the tracks and dives into talking about the incredible range of vocals on the record on the Behine The Screams Podcast.

As vocalists, finding a balance between the technique and emotional delivery can be a challenge but when you hone in on that sweet spot where you can get the best of both it really pays off and you can really hear that in the vocal performance on “Reflections” with a lot of great variation from track to track.

Working with Andy Black and Black Veil Brides has been truly great, and they crushed this last show of their massive US headline tour here. Seeing and hearing how much Andy has unlocked in his voice, the fun he and the band are having live and the fans reactions brings me a lot of joy. Nights like this and befriending awesome people like Andy are some of the best parts of my job as a vocal coach and again I'm honored to have played any part in the making of their new album Vindicate.
