We believe in every kid. And we take that very seriously.

Some of the strongest believers in play are teachers who were skeptical at first. But once they see what happens when students feel seen, included, and connected at recess, they start to notice a difference back in the classroom: fewer conflicts means quicker transitions and more time for learning.

A lot of kids don't want to be at school. Not because they don't like learning, but because they feel lonely and disconnected.

But what if your school felt like the kind of place a kid wanted to come back to? Where recess was active, inclusive, and every kid could get in the game, and where the relationships built on the playground carried into the classroom.

Playworks helps elementary schools create the conditions that make kids like coming to school. And a 2025 UC Berkeley study found Title I schools with Playworks programming had statistically significant lower chronic absence rates than Title I schools without it.

When kids feel like they belong, they show up.

The 90s are sooooo back, and its totally rad. Weโ€™re a little nostalgic for childhood classics. From Knockout to Wall Ball to Capture the Flag, the games that were popular when Playworks began back in 1996 and are still just as fun. Check out our latest blog for a little refresher on how to play and share these recess staples with kids today!
