This is a challenging time for us all, and UHS Counseling Center clinicians are facilitating drop-in online spaces for any UMB student who is looking for more support.

We are interested in bringing students together to:
- “Meet up” and interact with others
- Connect with others who are also missing a sense of community - Share your experience, and listen to other people’s experiences
- Exchange tips for coping and wellness

—————————

All virtual support spaces will begin on Monday April 27, and last through the summer with enough interest. Spaces are open to any UMB student although some are targeted to certain student populations, and others are more general:
- Student leaders and Resident Assistants: Mondays 10:30 – 11:30 am with Bill DeFranc, PhD

- General for all UMB students Mondays 3:30 – 4:30 pm with Kim Santora, PhD

- International students Tuesdays 10:00 – 11:00 with Zeljka Mileusnic, PsyD

- LGBTQ identified students Wednesdays 2:00 – 3:00 with Donald Graham, LICSW

- General for all UMB students, with a focus on stress Thursdays 10:00 – 11:00 with Kara Lustig, PhD

Because these are drop-ins there is no commitment and you can log in once or more than once, for the entire hour or part of it.

—————————

Please e-mail [email protected] from your student e-mail, telling us which space(s) you are interested in, and we will send you the appropriate link. Please also e-mail us if you are interested in participating but cannot attend these designated times.

—————————

Please note that these are support spaces, they are NOT therapy or treatment groups. You can reach the Counseling Center by calling 617-287-5690, if you are in distress and interested in individualized and therapeutic crisis support, Monday – Friday from 8:30 – 5 pm. The Counseling Center also offers after-hours and weekend crisis support by telephone which you can reach at the same number.

—————————

Sessions will take place over ZoomHealthcare which is HIPAA compliant and encrypted. Nonetheless, due to the open and online nature of this drop-in model, we cannot fully guarantee privacy and security, but participants are encouraged to be respectful of each other and practice

Mindfulness is a tool that can help us to manage feelings of stress and uncertainty. During this particular time, when instruction is being moved online - it is important to continue to cultivate self-care.

While we look forward to being able to offer KORU in person - we are fortunate that KORU includes tools that do not require being in a particular place at a particular time to use them. By registering for this virtual section of KORU you will receive free access to the KORU Mindfulness App.

The app includes guided meditations, videos, and a mindfulness log. You can also submit your logs for feedback. You can access the companion text, The MIndful Twenty-Something as an e-book through the Boston Public Library, the SAILS Library Network - and University Health Services is working on obtaining e-books that we can share as well.

You can also access resources on the Koru Mindfulness web site - including a blog and more videos (see here :https://student.korumindfulness.org/resources.html) Sign up today and you will receive weekly prompts to help keep you on track. Use the app (which includes guided meditations and videos), read along in the book - and use the logs to get feedback from Director of Health Education, Linda Dunphy. And, you can do all this from where ever you happen to find yourself - starting at any time.

Do it today!
