SOAL is more than a step team. While step enables us to creatively express ourselves and be in unison with one another, we also strive to create a sense of community that’s open to all. When one community is affected, it impacts us all.
On the morning of April 27th, Northeastern University initiated the arrest of over 100 peaceful demonstrators. As a coalition of student organizations, we condemn these actions and call on the Northeastern University administration to engage with the demands listed above. SOAL Meets Service - SOAL (Stepping On Another Level) got the opportunity to perform for the Black History Month Pep Rally in Concord, MA at the FENN School. We explained to the middle schoolers the rich history that step has in Black History, from historic gumbo step to the Divine Nine. We performed a routine focusing on SOAL’s togetherness and community and then taught a specific step to 320 students. Faculty and students got the chance to learn their ‘Slide’ step and then performed for their peers. This was a great performance and teaching opportunity for SOAL. 👣
