Suffolk Law is the only law school in the country with 𝘁𝗼𝗽-𝟱 programs in both experiential bookends of legal education—clinics and legal writing (No. 4 and No. 5 respectively). We are the only school with all four skills programs—legal writing, clinics, dispute resolution, and trial advocacy—ranked in the top 20% 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. At Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 17, Suffolk University will award honorary degrees to three distinguished leaders in government, higher education, and technology who share a commitment to principled service in challenging times:

𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗠𝗰𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲, JD ’94, shapes how one of tech’s most well-known companies navigates a complex digital world. As Zoom's chief legal officer, she grapples with responsible use of AI, global privacy concerns, and the lightning pace of technological change.

California Congressman 𝗥𝗼 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮 has emerged as a leading progressive voice in the U.S. House of Representatives, working to restore American manufacturing and technology leadership, improve the lives of working people, and advance US leadership on climate, human rights, and diplomacy around the world.

𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗖. 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗯, 𝗝𝗿., has served as chair of the Suffolk University Board of Trustees for nearly a decade, following a career in the top echelons of the banking industry, including serving as CFO for a major bank. At Suffolk, he has brought the highest ethical standards to the University’s governance while fostering a culture of integrity, care, and continuous improvement.

We are excited to let you know our Suffolk University Law School’s Pre-Law Achievers Network application is now available! This year’s program will run from May 31-June 12 here in the heart of Boston.

The Achievers Network (Achievers) is a FREE program designed to equip participants who come from diverse or nontraditional backgrounds with the tools they will need to prepare successful applications to law school and succeed once they are admitted. Achievers take legal classes that mirror the 1L experience, get one-on-one application assistance from experienced admission officers, and meet practicing lawyers in and around the Boston area.

College students or recent graduates from underrepresented or nontraditional backgrounds such as racial minorities, first generation students, and members of the Q+ community, who plan to apply to law school in 2027 or 2028 and any student who holds a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better are welcome to apply.

When U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) families face a financial crisis, some may not know what steps to take. Suffolk Law 3L USCG Lieutenant Jack Brandt built a digital tool to help. Brandt is one of just eight students nationwide named a 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙅𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩 "Law Student of the Year." He has created digital tools that have helped more than 1,300 service members and families access the benefits they've earned.

At Suffolk Law's 𝗟𝗜𝗧 𝗟𝗮𝗯, he learned basic Python from scratch. Then he built the Military Benefits Assistant and a Coast Guard Mutual Assistance Program Finder, so families can access emergency support faster.

A Pro Bono Scholar this semester volunteering at Veterans Legal Services, he will return to the Coast Guard as a JAG officer—with plans to expand his platform to reach even more veterans and military families.

Suffolk Law Dean Andrew Perlman has been named to The National Jurist's 2026 list of the "𝟮𝟱 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻," marking his second consecutive appearance on the publication's ranking of leaders shaping the field.

National Jurist described Perlman as "a driving force in modernizing legal education" and "a central figure in helping legal education and the profession adapt to rapid technological change." He has positioned Suffolk Law as "a national leader in legal technology and innovation," the publication said.

The honor reflects more than a decade of institution-building at Suffolk Law—work Perlman credits to his colleagues and students.

We are among the first schools to launch a required AI curriculum for 1Ls and the first STEM-designated LLM in Legal Innovation & Technology.

We are deeply saddened at the passing of Judge Frank Caprio, Sr., JD '65, HLLD ’91 who came to be known as one of America's most compassionate judges. Judge Caprio's story embodies Suffolk University’s historic mission to offer opportunity to those who traditionally have lacked access. The son of an Italian immigrant father and Italian-American mother, he lived in a Providence cold-water flat growing up, working as a high school teacher while attending Suffolk Law at night. He went on to serve 38 years as a Providence Municipal Court judge, touching lives through his humane approach to justice.

His Emmy-nominated and syndicated TV show "Caught in Providence" made him a global celebrity, watched by a multitude of fans who found hope in his fairness and understanding. But Judge Caprio’s generosity extended far beyond the cameras—he quietly helped thousands who had fallen on hard times.

His commitment to Suffolk Law never wavered, and in celebration of that devotion he received Suffolk Law’s Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award in 2023. He established the Antonio "Tup" Caprio Scholarship Fund, named after his father, for Rhode Island students dedicated to serving underserved communities. Both of his sons, Frank T. Caprio, JD ‘91 and David Caprio, JD ‘94 are also Suffolk Law graduates. Judge Caprio reminded us all to be compassionate and understanding of our fellow human beings.
