I had lunch with a friend yesterday and they asked me how it feels to be a father of 4? They knew me in single dad land and have witnessed the becoming of me and Brittany.
I shared about the story of my last 2. I shared that I knew Kehlani was going to come one day because God told me while in one of my darkest moments.

Kairo was a little different. We were at a place where we went back and forth about closing out the story.

But God also told my wife that she would have a son and his name will be Isaiah. Isaiah means “The Lord is Salvation” Meaning, God is the ultimate source of rescue, deliverance and total security.

He is the reminder and completion of the Badgett Legacy. God has been the source behind all of the story.
His smile and presence reminds us of this truth daily.

One of the areas folks wrestle with when it comes to having children at a later age is the reality you confront about your own mortality. Do you really want to be raising kids in your 40s? But having children and creating a legacy is about what happens when you’re gone not just about when you’re here. I will pour until I am no more. I pray the same for you.

The Holiday Season is here. You don’t have to attend every function. Just because they are family doesn’t mean they are friendly or considerate of where you are in your life. It’s ok to guard your peace.

So I’ll say this as a Child a Therapist, Coach, Mentor and someone who has worked in education for more than a decade:

If you have a child that’s 18-21, they need a lot more hand holding and support than you did or even more than a generations before them. They are not READY. They are not just going to get it and this world is HUGE to them and terrifying. They have absolutely no idea what’s next. And their role models are Gaming Streamers who live online in another universe. TikTok has mad things way worse!

This group is the among the first graduating class to be affected by COVID and they have not recovered. Whatever development stage they were at prior to Covid just go ahead and subtract 2.5 years from that. A good majority are struggling in the areas of

✅Job application
✅Drivers Licenses
✅College / Trade School options
✅Most have no desire or skill set to even think about moving out.
✅Opening a Bank Account
✅Appropriate dressing on an interview
✅Navigating Emails and follow up.
✅Saving for a Car.
✅How to talk on the phone.

As a parent we can easily assume they understand the importance of young adulting but trust me they don’t. The world has also changed massively since we were children. I personally did all of the above on my own. My latchkey peers were managing the entire house at 12. Times have changed.

Don’t get frustrated with their lack of drive or ambition. Most of them are insecure and don’t want you to see how ignorant they really are.
Have grace , stay engaged and triple check in and walk with them until they can take the training wheels off. Expose them to options and possibilities. Take a drive to a trade school, college, small business, Wall Street, realestate meeting. They won’t do it alone and nor should they have too.

They are your legacy. If you don’t have children and feel called to help out a young adult by all means DO IT!!
