What is ā€œalignmentā€ and what is its purpose? I’ve been pondering this recently and I think alignment can be used in two distinct ways: to limit and confine us
OR to bring cooperation, understanding, and integration.

The definitions of ā€œalignā€ even exist as opposites. One involves ā€œputting (things) into correct or appropriate relative positions.ā€ While the other is ā€œ to give support to (something) or to come together in agreement or alliance.ā€

When we think of this in context of the human experience, the first definition involves measuring ourselves against some predetermined standard, trying to conform to something that may not fit. The second implies adaptation and cooperation to build something unique.

What does that mean in the context of our lives and our yoga practice? That we can choose to use alignment to either imprison ourselves, or to free ourselves.

When I teach, I’m not interested in what the posture looks like, but rather how are you interacting within the shape? Are you fighting yourself or listening to what you need more/less of? I can make suggestions and direct students’ awareness towards different patterns and relationships, but it’s up to the individual to build that relationship within themselves.

Here’s to a new year hopefully filled with more alignment, more understanding, more curiosity, more listening, more support, and more ease.

If you want to explore your own alignment with me, join me in one of my classes:

-Mon, 11:45 a.m. Brookline (in person)
-Mon, 4:00 p.m. Slow Flow & Roll (virtual and in person) JP Centre Yoga]
-Wed, 6:15 pm Align Your Flow (virtual)
-Fri, 7:00 a.m. Mixed levels (virtual) JP Centre Yoga]

Cozy season commences.

I just love teaching this workshopšŸ’›. The content always changes, just as my experience of the body, breath, emotions, and mind are continually shifting and evolving.

It’s from that undeniable change that I am able to see that which is constant: the Self, that quiet, formless place that watches from within.

When I watch from that place, I can make choices that facilitate ease instead of struggle. I’m able to see my patterns more clearly, respond more compassionately, and react more constructively.

Join me on Saturday (virtually or in person) JP Centre Yoga] to explore how observing patterns in our hips can help us to sift through the clutter, move more freely, and get out of our own way šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Check out JP Centre Yoga] ā€˜s website to sign up. And feel free to message me with any questions.
