The beginning of the semester is back… We get it!

When I was in nursing school, at the beginning of each semester I felt overwhelmed and didn’t think I could possibly do it all. 😰

I would leave my first few classes and contemplate withdrawing. Seriously consider it!

I didn’t think it was possible to learn everything, complete hours of simulation and hours of clinical. I remember sitting in the orientation classes with horrible anxiety! The problem was, I didn’t have the techniques to manage it all.

It took me years of teaching nursing students myself to figure out techniques to handle the stress of nursing school. These is what you need to survive this semester:

➡️ Use a calendar!
➡️ Put your assignments, exams and clinical dates on it. AND schedule your exact study time and days.
➡️ Once you have everything on your calendar and know there’s a place and time for everything, you can relax.
➡️ Don’t cram for exams. Study an hour or two each day, don’t wait until a few days before or you won’t retain the information.
➡️ Make your own study guides (check out the bonus tip below for help with this!)
➡️ Find a source for practice questions that you really like - we like Archer and UWorld!
➡️ Set up your studying space - you need to feel comfortable and inspired!
➡️ Get creative with your studying, use a white board and try teaching someone. You have to find a way to enjoy studying!

Future RN's "Study Template" has entered the chat 💬

A Future RN DMed us recently to rave about this game-changer. 😍

This is why you’re feeling overwhelmed and stressed about taking NCLEX. 😰

As nursing professors for many years, we definitely need more than 2 hands to count the amount of times we’ve heard a nursing graduate say they had no idea how much different it would be to prepare for NCLEX than the typical nursing exam during school… Crazy different!

So, every time you sit through a long, boring and impersonal NCLEX prep program or aimlessly study an NCLEX prep book, you’re not getting closer to becoming a Registered Nurse. ❌

But the good news is, we’ve got some tips to help you.

⁣⁣⁣⁣➡️ Make a study calendar and stick to it!
➡️ Practice 30 NCLEX questions per day
➡️ Always read and understand the rationales
➡️ Prepare for test taking strategy
➡️ Do not overstudy!

We do meds a bit differently…

Most nursing schools tell you you need to know every medication you ever covered, but call us rebels, we don't! 🤩

Here’s why:
You can't possibly remember every medication name!😬 Antihypertensives are recognizable by their ending. This week, we'll talk about beta-blockers. You can recognize a beta-blocker because they end in "lol", like metoprolol or labetolol.

Side Effects:
Antihypertensives lower blood pressure, sometimes causing orthostatic hypotension. Teach your patient to change positions slowly. This is a safety risk!

Nursing Care:
Be sure to check the blood pressure and heart rate before administering. Check the prescription parameters.

Can’t believe I’m about to say this but… NCLEX pass rates across the country are HIGHER with Next Gen! 😃

When I first heard about the Next Gen NCLEX, I was worried because usually when there is a change in the NCLEX format, rates go down. 🙈

BUT, here’s why pass rates are actually higher with Next-Gen:
- Partial credit for select all that apply, this is HUGE!
- Questions are more life-like which makes them easier to visualize and easier to answer! New grads say they actually make sense because it is similar to looking at a chart and patient. 📂

Stop wasting your time when preparing for NCLEX, do this instead ⤵️

Nursing school can be overwhelming. There’s ALOT to know and we’re here to help you figure out the MUST know details. ✨

We have taught hundreds and hundreds of nursing students during our teaching careers and here’s some must-know information about antibiotics 💊

➡️ Antibiotics should only be prescribed for bacterial infections, not viral!

➡️ Always collect cultures BEFORE administering antibiotics

➡️ Drinking alcohol should be avoided with antibiotic use, as this may be directly contraindicated or can cause stain on the liver

➡️ Some antibiotics can cause photosensitivity - this means educating patients to avoid direct sun exposure!

➡️ Some antibiotics can cause GI upset, closely monitor patients that could be in danger if they have fluid imbalances from diarrhea/vomiting (ie, the elderly)

➡️ Patients MUST be educated on finishing the entire prescription of antibiotics, even if are feeling better!
