Myth Buster Monday | RCS Education Matters

Extreme weather guidelines aren’t just for student-athletes.

At RCS, weather safety applies anytime students are outdoors — including recess, PE, field trips, school activities, and athletics.

Schools consider the heat index during hot weather and wind chill during cold weather, along with students’ ages and the type of activity, to determine when outdoor activities should be limited or moved indoors.

From the playground to the athletic field, student safety always comes first.

💬 Testimonial Thursday | Principal of the Year

“Students are not simply part of the work we do—they are the reason for it.”

For this week’s Testimonial Thursday, we’re proud to feature Tony Wall, Principal of CHASE High School and the 2026–2027 RCS Principal of the Year!

Mr. Wall shares what makes Rutherford County Schools special: a commitment to putting students at the center of everything we do. Whether students discover their strengths through academics, CTE, athletics, the arts, leadership, service, or simply by overcoming a challenge and realizing what they’re capable of, RCS provides opportunities for every student to find a place to belong and succeed.

And for Mr. Wall, that commitment is personal. The same district that supported and encouraged him as a student is now the district he is proud to serve as a school leader.

Students first. Opportunities to grow. A place to belong. That’s why education matters.

Congratulations again to Mr. Wall on being named the 2026–2027 RCS Principal of the Year, and thank you for your dedication to the students of CHASE High School and Rutherford County Schools!

MYTH BUSTER MONDAY | Before the first bell rings, the work has already begun.

Tomorrow, hundreds of Rutherford County Schools educators will return to classrooms, schools, and offices to prepare for an incredible year ahead. They'll set up classrooms, collaborate with colleagues, participate in professional learning, plan engaging lessons, and make sure everything is ready for our students.

A successful first day of school doesn't happen by chance, it happens because of the dedication and preparation of our amazing educators.

Welcome back, RCS faculty and staff! We can't wait to welcome our students on August 11 and kick off another outstanding school year.

🍎 Testimonial Thursday | From RCS Student to RCS Teacher

Today we're proud to highlight Riley Johnson, a first-grade teacher at Spindale Elementary School and a proud graduate of Rutherford County Schools.

Riley's journey is a testament to what is possible when students are given opportunities to succeed. While attending R-S Central High School, she completed two years of college coursework before earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Gardner-Webb University. Through the partnership between Rutherford County Schools and Gardner-Webb, she completed her student teaching in the very same kindergarten classroom, and with the very same teacher, that first inspired her love of learning.

Now, Riley has come full circle. She has returned to Rutherford County Schools to invest in the next generation of students, just as so many educators invested in her.

Stories like Riley's remind us that public schools don't just educate students, they inspire future teachers, leaders, and community members who choose to give back.
