In an effort to provide every student with a positive atmosphere and sense of belonging, for the 2022-2023 school year, every student is part of a “house” with faculty members serving as “house leaders”. In our houses, students will develop positive relationships with staff members and other students across grade levels. Every student belongs to a special “family”, where he/she will be encouraged and supported to reach goals and find success both academically and socially.
When students earn Paw Points for demonstrating positive behavior and meeting their goals, they aren't only earning points for themselves, but for their house as well! The house with the most points at the end of each quarter is awarded with a special celebration. Below is our house leader board so far this 9 weeks!

It's National Parent Involvement Day and we want to say 𝙏𝙃𝘼𝙉𝙆 𝙔𝙊𝙐 to our parents for supporting their child everyday! Did you know if a parent is actively engaged in their child's school, that student is more likely to be successful academically, socially and behaviorally?
Volunteering at your child's school is one of the best ways to get involved. Bossier Schools' Parent Education Center is also a great resource where you can pick up materials to work with your child at home, as well as games, technology, counseling and much more. And did we mention it's all free? Stop by anytime from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Monday-Friday.
This school year, all W.T. Lewis students have been using Lexia® Core5® Reading — a fun, computer-based program that has helped millions of students improve their literacy skills! The activities in Core5 support and build on your child’s classroom curriculum and focus on developing reading skills in six areas: phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Here’s how Lexia Core5 Reading works:
• Your child begins Core5 at a starting point that fits his or her needs and then engages in online activities throughout the week.
• Online activities include direct instruction and immediate feedback as your child learns new skills.
• Progress and performance in the program are reported directly to teachers so that they can provide assistance when needed.
• Paper-and-pencil activities are also used for practice and may be completed in school or brought home.
• Achievement certificates may be sent home to celebrate success and to show progress in the program.
We hope you share in our excitement about this program! To support you and provide our families with the resources you need, we have created a Lexia Family Resource Page (linked on our W.T. Lewis App).
These hardworking Bulldogs have finished their Lexia Grade Level Material! Congratulations!! We are so proud of you!
The Bulldogs are celebrating SUCCESS! School Performance Scores were released today by the Louisiana Department of Education and W.T. Lewis earned an "A" RATING and TOP GAINS recognition! Top Gains schools are those demonstrating exceptional student growth earning an “A” for student progress, ensuring that students meet or exceed their learning goals each year! We are SO PROUD and can't wait to celebrate this amazing accomplishment together as a school family! Go Bulldogs!
At W.T. Lewis, we have high expectations for our students and we support them in learning the skills and behaviors necessary for continued success.
We believe that children learn best through positive reinforcement and support. We also believe that a critical element to student success is having a growth mindset. We teach all of our students that mistakes are an opportunity to learn & we reinforce this by teaching our students to have GRIT. GRIT stands for:
Give it your all
Redo if necessary
Ignore giving up
Take time to do it right
When a student faces a challenging task, but refuses to give up until they overcome that challenge, their teacher can give them the GRIT Award for showing perseverance! Congratulations to our GRIT Award recipients from last week!!!

Our school expectations are based on a few simple concepts; readiness, respect, responsibility, and safety. These expectations are taught to our children through the use of the acronym “BARK”. Our students recite a daily “BARK” pledge and are taught ways to meet our expectations in all areas of the school throughout the year. Through our PBIS program, students can earn Paw Points for following the BARK expectations, going above & beyond, & reaching goals.
This year we created a new award called Top Dog of the Week, which is awarded to the student that has earned the most Paw Points in the entire school for the previous week. Every Monday on the Bulldog Broadcast (our weekly announcements), Mrs Burns announces the Top Dog of the week & these are the recipients so far this year! Congratulations to these PAWsome Bulldogs for earning this special honor.
Bulldog pride is STRONG here at W.T. Lewis! We love our school family & we love to celebrate each other's successes. Every month, faculty & staff members have the opportunity to give a shout out to another faculty or staff member that is doing amazing things. At the end of the month we draw one shout out & that person is our Bulldog of the Month! Congratulations to our Bulldogs of the Month so far this year!!!
