This year, the Airline Blue Jackets are teaming up with Chick-fil-A to help give away 1 MILLION BOOKS to children across the nation! Our Blue Jackets recently brought the fun to Plantation Park Elementary, where they dressed in costume and read books to kindergarten and first-grade students. The fun didn’t stop there! Each child received THREE FREE BOOKS, along with a special handwritten note from our Blue Jackets to remind them just how special they are.
We are so proud of our Blue Jackets for sharing their time, their love of reading, and a little extra kindness with these amazing young readers!

Congratulations to our 2026-2027 Outstanding Support Person of the Year, Mary Freeland!
Since 2011, Mrs. Freeland has been dedicated to serving the students and families of the Bossier Parish School System. Before joining BPSB, she spent years in the nonprofit sector as a counseling center director, and she has brought that same heart for helping others to Airline High School. For the past 4 years, she has been the Principal's Secretary and the amazing, welcoming face of our front office. From coordinating our favorite FriYAH staff treats to managing our social media and running campus events, Mrs. Freeland always goes above and beyond to make Airline the absolute best it can be.
We are so grateful for everything you do, Mrs. Freeland!

Today, Coach Posey's guitar class was visited by local Musicians, Producers and Artists Alex Johnson and Zach "ZJ" Johnson. Alex and ZJ have produced national artists, plays and productions. They run the local Legendary Studio Amore Studioz in Shreveport where icons like Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, N*SYNC, the Backstreet Boys and many more have recorded. Alex has performed musically in front of crowds of 100,000 even produced for American Idol. It was an incredible visit and a day of Music... Even Coach Posey got in on the fun... see the first comment for a treat!!

We are incredibly proud to announce Catherine Mikesell as our New Teacher of the Year for 2027–2028!
Mrs. Mikesell's journey has come full circle, moving from a standout student to a celebrated educator. She is a proud alumni of Airline High School (Class of 2023) and a graduate of LSU Shreveport (Class of 2026). Mrs. Mikesell is inspiring our Vikings every day as an Algebra 2 teacher. She says "I love being back at The A. I love the faculty and staff, who are all so helpful and friendly. I was incredibly surprised and honored to receive this recognition."

Congratulations to Mr. Brad Winstead, Airline High School’s 2027–2028 Teacher of the Year! As a proud Airline High School alumnus, Mr. Winstead returned to his roots and has been inspiring Vikings in the classroom since 2021. This prestigious honor follows a legacy of excellence, as he was previously named the 2023–2024 New Teacher of the Year and advanced to become a state finalist.
Before transitioning into education, Mr. Winstead spent 20 years as a successful Human Resources professional. After recognizing a gap between the skills of graduating students and the actual qualifications needed to enter the modern workforce, he decided to become part of the solution. He now teaches Principles of Business and Drone Technology.
Mr. Winstead was also an integral part of bringing The Viking Exchange to Airline. This student-managed and student-operated retail store serves as a hands-on laboratory. It allows our students to master a National Retail Federation-aligned curriculum while providing a genuine service to their peers. Best of all, all funds earned through the store go directly toward supporting PBIS and other programs that benefit Airline High School students.
Thank you, Mr. Winstead, for your dedication, innovation, and passion for preparing our students for real-world success. This honor is incredibly well-deserved!
