📣 BASIC Is Hiring: Managing Director 📣

BASIC (Basic Assistance for Students in the Community) is seeking a Managing Director to lead programs, fundraising, operations, and community partnerships supporting students and families in Borrego Springs.

This hands-on leadership position will help advance BASIC’s C2G — Cradle to Graduation mission while overseeing programs including:

📚 Dolly Parton Imagination Library
🎓 Learning Academy
💰 Scholarships

The ideal candidate is:

✅ Bilingual in Spanish and English
✅ Organized and proactive
✅ A strong communicator and relationship-builder
✅ Experienced in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, education, administration, programs, or community service preferred

📚✨ What an incredible season of reading and learning! ✨📚

This week, our TK After School Reading Club celebrated its Closing Ceremony, marking the end of a wonderful journey filled with stories, adventures, learning activities, games, and unforgettable memories.

Each of our students received a certificate recognizing their participation and commitment throughout the program, along with a special gift bag that included books to enjoy at home with their families and an educational tablet to continue practicing letters and building vocabulary.

We shared a wonderful afternoon together enjoying pizza, desserts, and an exciting round of Alphabet Bingo filled with prizes, laughter, and smiles.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the After School Program and its dedicated staff for helping make this experience possible. We are also grateful to BSUSD for providing the space, support, and transportation that allowed our students to participate in library visits throughout the program; and the San Diego County Library staff in Borrego Springs for warmly welcoming our students and partnering with us to promote a love of reading from an early age.

We are so proud of our little readers and all they have accomplished. Seeing their excitement for books and reading grow week after week has been the greatest reward. 📖❤️🌟

Today our TK/ASES Reading Club enjoyed their second visit to the library! 📚✨

We read the book “What I Like About Me” — a fun and engaging story full of rhymes, laughter, and positive messages about celebrating what makes each of us unique. 💛

Our students also created self-portraits and played a matching letters game where we practiced recognizing letters together while having so much fun! 🎨🔤

A big thank you to our library for welcoming us once again, and to BSUSD for providing school transportation and making these special experiences possible! 🚍📖

Today during our Wednesday Reading Session, our TK ASES group enjoyed the wonderful story Big Red Barn — a fun and engaging book filled with animals, rhythm, and playful rhymes that kept our little readers excited from beginning to end! 📚🐴🐮🐔

After story time, students played a matching card game where they searched for and matched letters of the alphabet while practicing teamwork and letter recognition. 🔤✨

As every Wednesday, our TK ASES Reading Group enjoyed a new adventure together! 📚✨

Today we visited the Central Library, where we had a wonderful reading circle and explored the book “Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?” 🐼🦩🦓
It was such a fun and engaging story filled with many amazing animals that kept our students excited and curious throughout the session.

We also enjoyed a few rounds of Alphabet Bingo, where we practiced and reviewed our letters while having lots of fun together! 🔤🎉

A special thank you to the BSUSD for providing school transportation, and to the San Diego County Library – Borrego Springs staff for warmly welcoming our students and making this experience possible. 💛

✨ This week we held our 4th reading session with our TK group in the after-school program.

We enjoyed a fun reading adventure with the story:
📚 “The Three Bears”

During the reading session, our students participated enthusiastically by asking questions about the characters, sharing their ideas, and showing great interest in the story.

Each session continues to strengthen not only their reading skills, but also their imagination, curiosity, and confidence in expressing themselves.

🎨 We also enjoyed a very creative activity using colorful paint and key words from the story, helping students connect reading with art and interactive learning.

Special thanks to BSUSD and ASES for their collaboration and continued support in making these meaningful learning experiences possible for our students.

We love seeing our students discover new ideas, develop creativity, and enjoy learning together through books. 💛📖

Huge thank you to the Borrego Valley Endowment Fund (BVEF) for their continued support of BASIC’s Summer Learning Academy! Because of their generosity, our students are properly fueled for learning each day with a nutritious breakfast, snack, and lunch.

Fun fact: every breakfast includes eggs, as research shows key nutrients in eggs help students stay focused and ready to learn. We are so grateful for partners like BVEF who invest in Borrego’s kids and their futures. 🧡
