🌱 The Boonslick Master Gardeners hosted a plant sale on June 19 at the home of one of its members, followed the next day by the group’s second annual plant swap held in the basement of Santa Fe Trail Baptist Church. The swap brought together plant enthusiasts to share plants and exchange gardening knowledge. Proceeds from both events will help support Master Gardener projects that assist residents throughout the Boonslick area in learning about and enjoying gardening. πŸ’š

🌱 Week 6 of the Children's Learning Garden, held on June 16, was all about bugs in the garden πŸžπŸ•·οΈ. Master Gardener Susan Felten shared an engaging presentation on "Good Bugs/Bad Bugs," sparking lots of questions, comments, and curiosity from the children πŸ’¬βœ¨.

After the lesson, each child created a fun "Milk Jug Bug House" πŸ‘πŸ› to take home. The group also explored several interesting nature samples, including a bird's nest πŸͺΊ, leaves πŸƒ, and a hornet's nest 🐝.

Out in the garden, the children helped with watering πŸ’¦ and enjoyed harvesting fresh radishes ❀️🌿.

🌱 Week 5 of the Children's Learning Garden on June 9 was filled with hands-on learning and creative fun. Master Gardener Cheri showed the children several different plants and talked about plant parts. Each of the kids was given a handout that showed a diagram of a plant, what the different plant parts are, the function of each one, and how they work together to help a plant grow, reproduce, and survive. Master Gardener Maria followed by teaching the children about deadheading flowers and saving seeds for next year's planting.

The evening's craft activity gave the children an opportunity to make potato people/animals using a variety of vegetables. πŸ₯” πŸ₯• They also harvested zinnia seeds from flowers grown in last year's garden, and each child was given an envelope of seeds to plant at home.🌸 After the crafts were completed, the children went outside to the garden and watered the plants and harvested radishes. The freshly picked radishes were then shared with families attending the evening's session. 🫜

🌼🚲 Decorative Bikes Installed at the Depot! 🚲🌼

Last week, four members of the Boonslick Master Gardener Chapter headed down to the Depot to install the newly donated decorative bikes that will serve as garden art and fun photo‑op spots.

These bikes were generously provided by Boonville Tourism, and the team put them to great use:

πŸ’ͺ Paul Woods and Eddie Hudson handled the installation β€” the muscle of the project.
🎨 Jackie Hickam and Janet Carpenter led the creative design and placement, adding their artistic touch to each bike.

πŸ’š The little green bike was placed in the Hummingbird Buffet bed, nestled into the native red columbine area that had just been cut back after blooming.

πŸ’œπŸ’™ The two larger bikes were installed in the Shade Garden, bringing bright color and a whimsical focal point to the space.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Depot gardens, enjoy the new pops of color, and snap a fun photo while exploring the area! 🌿✨
