I'm not entirely sure how we started to, so grossly, misinterpret the prefix "PRE".

Some how "PRE" has become a prefix that has removed a child's right to develop their bodies and brains through the work that rightfully belongs to a child: THEIR PLAY

We have forgotten (and, sadly, many never even knew) handwriting BEGINS with the CORE, not the fingers and hands. Literally every movement a child makes is PRE-writing, because movement develops all that must come BEFORE writing.

While society's race to academic achievements pushes for children to "learn to read" at earlier and earlier ages, it's important to know that there is a natural progression to literacy...and that is writing to reading. Not the other way around!

Before there can be reading there must exist some form of visual representation, a picture that expresses what otherwise would be told by word of mouth. In other words, speech comes first, then the desire to express one's spoken word or thoughts onto paper to share with others.

So we begin with the story, the Fairy Tales, and from these form pictures where the more abstract letter forms can be seen to emerge from and lead to the first experiences the children have of writing and reading.

In time, drawings turn to letter formation, then pronunciation, and identification lead to the initial spelling of simple words, sight recognition, and phonetic family work, to further the student’s initial spelling and reading abilities.

Speech, to drawing, to writing, to reading is the natural progression of language development throughout human history, dating all the way back to the caveman days through to modern age. It's how we're wired.
