This morning our Rho Kappa students were up early alongside the National Honor Society and Boonsboro Middle School’s Junior Rho Kappa chapter to help prepare 23,000 luminaries for Antietam National Battlefield’s annual Memorial Illumination! 🕯️

Popped into the museum today at the National Road Heritage Foundation, to be greeted by students from
Boonsboro High School. Maelee & Emily were volunteering today to earn credits for community service with Rho Kappa. Volunteer opportunities are available for students looking to complete their SLL hours.

SHAF holds bi-annual Work Days to restore and improve the historic landscape of the Antietam Battlefield and its environs. We do these in cooperation with the National Park Service and target areas where understanding the movements and combat as affected by terrain and vegetation are enhanced by our work. On March 1, 2025, Save Historic Antietam Foundation supported by Rho Kappa and a handful of Antietam Battlefield Guides assisted the National Park Service in clearing invasive brush honeysuckle from the East Woods near the intersection of Cornfield Avenue and the Smoketown Road. This work helps open up the woods and makes the terrain more visible.

Looking for something fun to do during this cold, dreary winter? Rho Kappa’s got you covered! We will be hosting a paint night on Wednesday, February 26th in the BHS cafeteria from 5-7 pm. Tickets can be purchased during lunches and must be bought ahead of time to secure your canvas and paint materials. Money raised from this event will be donated to SHAF. We hope to see you there!!

TONIGHT!!

The Boonsboro Rho Kappa is holding a fundraiser at the Texas Roadhouse in Hagerstown. Present a copy of this flyer and 10% of your bill will be donated to Rho Kappa, who are raising money on behalf of Save Historic Antietam Foundation.

The Boonsboro Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society has assisted SHAF on their workdays at the park and participates in the Memorial Illumination each year.

Print out this flyer and bring it with you to the restaurant, present to your server and they will do the rest.

It was a cold one this morning but there were lots of smiles as we teamed up with National Honor Society to partake in the annual luminary event at Antietam Battlefield. There was lots of wind - and several (many) bags that caught fire during lighting - but many hands make light work and our students did it all gladly!! We hope you’ll go and see all of the hard work this evening!
