Today, we are sharing a 6-minute video featuring several Northeast Mississippi Community College Adult Education students as they share how this program has transformed not only their own lives, but the lives of their families.

Right now, the proposed federal budget would eliminate federal funding for Adult Education (WIOA Title II/Adult Education and Family Literacy Act) for funding in 2027. For many, this program is more than earning a diploma or improving job skills—it's a second chance, a fresh start, and an opportunity to build a better future. It has changed countless lives throughout our five-county service area and continues to make an impact across Mississippi and beyond.

Take a few minutes to watch and listen to these incredible stories. We could film for days because there are so many students whose lives have been forever changed by Adult Education.

If you believe in the power of second chances and the importance of Adult Education, please consider reaching out to your local and state representatives. Encourage them to support and fight for continued funding so these life-changing opportunities remain available for future students.

Every story matters. Every student matters. Adult Education matters.

Student Success Spotlight: Kaitlynn Bass

Kaitlynn Bass began her journey with Northeast Mississippi Community College Adult Education in August 2025 at the Corinth Adult Education Center. She first enrolled in Mrs. Deanne Droke’s Smart Start class, successfully completing the program in four weeks. Motivated by her success, Kaitlynn continued her educational journey through Adult Education with the goal of earning her High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.

In September 2025, Kaitlynn took another important step toward her future by enrolling in the WIOA Gateway Youth Program. Through the program, she earned a paid internship with Kennedy Tax Service, where she discovered a love for office work, working with numbers, and serving others.

Kaitlynn plans to enroll at NEMCC in the fall to pursue a degree in Psychology. Her passion is helping young people navigate life's challenges and overcome obstacles they may face. Inspired by her own experiences, Kaitlynn hopes to become the advocate and mentor she always needed growing up—a positive influence who encourages others to believe in themselves and reach their full potential.

We are proud of Kaitlynn's determination, hard work, and heart for helping others, and we look forward to seeing all she accomplishes in the future.
