❤️💙 Exploring Careers with Our Kindergarten Students! 💙❤️

Today, Thrasher Career Coach April Pounders had the opportunity to read to our kindergarten students as they continue their study of careers this week! 📚👷‍♀️👩‍⚕️👨‍🔧

Mrs. Pounders read Who’s Hat Is This?, a fun book that introduces students to different careers through the hats people wear on the job. 🎩 The students enjoyed guessing the different careers and were eager to share their answers!

She also shared a book that explores a variety of skilled trades and talked with the students about how important these careers are to our everyday lives and to our world. They learned about careers such as welders, plumbers, HVAC technicians, heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and construction workers, just to name a few. 🔧🛠️🚜

The students were very engaged, attentive, and excited to participate. They were eager to answer questions and share what they already knew about different careers.

It’s never too early to start talking about careers and helping students understand that there are so many different ways they can make a difference in the world! ❤️💙

Our youngest Rebels are already exploring their futures! 🎓✨

🔧☀️ JOB SHADOW SPOTLIGHT! ☀️🔧

Thrasher Junior Hardin Geyer had the opportunity to job shadow with Bryant’s** HVAC in Booneville** and get a firsthand look at what life is really like in the HVAC industry!

Hardin is still unsure about what he wants to do after high school, so he is taking the opportunity to explore different careers and find out what might be the best fit for him. And let’s just say… he survived an EXTREMELY hot day out in the world of HVAC! 🥵😂 That’s impressive in itself!

Hardin said he was glad he had the experience and enjoyed getting to see the HVAC profession up close. After experiencing the job firsthand, he feels that he may lean toward another career path—but that’s exactly what job shadowing is all about! Sometimes the best way to figure out what you want to do is to experience it for yourself. He plans to continue exploring different options as he works toward finding the right career for his future.

A BIG thank-you to Adam Bryant for opening the doors of Bryant’s HVAC and allowing Hardin to spend the day learning about the HVAC industry. We appreciate Adam for giving our students the opportunity to see the real side of the job, experience the work environment, and learn from someone working in the field. ❤️💙

We’re proud of Hardin for being willing to step outside his comfort zone, try something new, and keep exploring! Finding the right career is a journey, and we’re excited to see where his journey takes him! ⭐

🔥❄️ CAREER SPOTLIGHT: HANDS-ON HVAC EXPERIENCE! ❄️🔥

🎓 Ryan Davis, a senior at Wheeler School, stepped out of the classroom today and into the real world of HVAC! 🔧🏠

Ryan is exploring several career options as he looks toward life after high school, and he understands that making informed career decisions today can make a BIG difference in his future! 🚀

Today, Ryan got to experience what a day in the HVAC field really looks like at Bryant’s Heating & Cooling in Booneville!

🛠️ HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE INCLUDED:
✂️ Cutting insulation
🔩 Cutting holes in pipes for ventilation
❄️ Helping service air-conditioning units
🏠 Visiting customers’ homes
👀 Seeing firsthand what HVAC professionals do every day

Today at Booneville, we kicked off a Senior Shift series- a variety of topics designed to help prepare these seniors for the “shift” to life after high school.

Coach Richy Harrelson spoke to them today about emotional control, understanding how different parts of the brain 🧠 control our reactions, and how important it is to manage those reactions. Students explored how to train their brains and change habits-how to get rid of bad habits and how to add good ones!

Today, Career Coach Rae Garner met with juniors Hudson Bridges and Sharon Gumm to talk about careers they may be interested in pursuing after high school. 🎓✨

The conversation focused on exploring career options, asking questions, and discovering what careers might be the right fit for them. They also discussed the importance of job shadowing and getting real-world experience before making future career decisions.

Both students are interested in participating in a job shadow, giving them the opportunity to step into a workplace, see a career firsthand, and learn what it takes to be successful! 👏🔍

❤️💙 Exploring Careers at Thrasher! 💙❤️

Today, Thrasher Career Coach April Pounders met with our senior class to spend some time exploring their interests and thinking about life after graduation.

The seniors began by completing an interest inventory and then explored several careers that matched their results. They researched the skills and qualifications needed for different careers, as well as the potential pay. Each student was asked to research at least three careers that fell within their interest areas.

But we didn’t stop there! They also had to choose two completely random careers—careers they knew little or nothing about—and research those as well. It was exciting to see some students discover careers they had never considered before! A few even walked away with new career options they want to explore further. 👏

Because so many of our seniors are still trying to decide what direction they want to take after graduation, activities like this give them an opportunity to learn more about themselves and the many possibilities available to them.

We also discussed several programs offered through the Northeast Mississippi Community College Workforce programs. Students were encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities when possible. Completing additional workforce training can add valuable skills to a résumé and, just as importantly, demonstrate initiative, motivation, and a willingness to invest in themselves and their future.

There is no one-size-fits-all path after high school. Whether it’s college, a career, a skilled trade, workforce training, or another path, the goal is to help our students discover what is right for them. 🎓🔧💼

We were excited to welcome SSG Wood with the Mississippi National Guard back to New Site High School! SSG Wood stopped by campus to schedule a Lunch & Learn opportunity where our students will have the chance to learn more about the many career, educational, and service opportunities available through the Mississippi National Guard.
While on campus, SSG Wood also took the time to meet individually with students who had reached out to him following his earlier classroom presentation. We appreciate him going the extra mile to answer questions, provide guidance, and help our students explore opportunities for their future!

Hannah Milburn, a junior at Wheeler School, stepped into the world of welding today! 🦅

Hannah spent the day at New Way Trucks for a hands-on job-shadow experience as she continues exploring what she may want to do after high school. Welding has caught Hannah’s interest—and today, she got to experience it firsthand! 👩‍🏭🔥

🔥 CAREER SPOTLIGHT: HANDS-ON LEARNING! 🔥

🛠️ Eli Copeland, a junior at Wheeler School, is exploring career options and has a strong interest in welding. Yesterday, Eli spent the day at New Way Trucks in Booneville getting a firsthand look at the welding and manufacturing industry!

⚙️ Eli jumped right in and got plenty of hands-on experience! One of the highlights of his day was participating in MIG welding, giving him the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work in the field he is considering for his future career.

👏 Eli said he really enjoyed his day and learned a lot! Experiences like this give our students the opportunity to explore their interests, gain real-world skills, and begin making plans for their futures.
