Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. According to http://hispanicheritagemonth.gov,
each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

It's Matinee Movie Monday! We are kicking off our month of light-hearted/ inspirational films with the 2011 film starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Dev Patel, and Bill Nighy. The film has a run time of 2 hours and 4 minutes and we will start at 2pm. Hope to see you there!

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the publication of Winnie the Pooh we are inviting your very special stuffed friend to spend the night in the library on the evening of October 9th.
Drop off you lovable silly ol' bear (or unicorn, dragon, fox, dog, elephant or other favorite stuffed friend) by 4:30 pm on Friday, October 9th.

They will be ready to be picked up any time after 10:30 am on Saturday, October 10th full of stories of their overnight adventures.

Stay at 11 am for Story Time featuring Honey Bee Lady Anthea Van Geloven to tell you all about bees, hives, honey and anything else you want to know about Pooh's favorite treat.

Then at noon, bring your lunch or a snack and watch a Winnie the Pooh movie with your special stuffed friend.

It will be loads of fun!
