Our 4th grade students have been putting their creativity to work as they explored the writing process over the past month! ✏️

From brainstorming and drafting to editing and publishing, these young authors learned what it takes to bring a story to life. They even practiced peer editing by reviewing Miss Stice’s writing and reminding her to form her n’s and h’s correctly.

To celebrate their hard work, students transformed their classroom into a writing coffee shop, where they shared their finished stories with classmates.

Way to go, 4th grade authors! Keep up the great work! 👏

Our Stellar Staff Member Spotlight shines on Principal Maggi Butler! 🤩

Since stepping into her role as principal this summer, Ms. Butler has worked tirelessly to support students and staff. She’s intentional about modeling the behaviors and attitudes she hopes to see throughout the school, and she has played an important role in strengthening student behavior across school settings.

Colleagues especially appreciate Ms. Butler’s responsiveness and the way she shows up when support is needed. Whether responding promptly to a radio call, helping address a student concern, or supporting staff through a challenge, she demonstrates that every person matters.

We are proud to recognize her!

We’re proud to recognize Fire Prevention Week! 🚒

Did you know that most home fires are preventable? Here are a few tips and habits that can make a big difference:

✅ Never leave cooking unattended
✅ Keep dryer lint traps clean after every use
✅ Store matches and lighters where children cannot reach them
✅ Check electrical cords for fraying or damage regularly
✅ Keep flammable items well away from heat sources

Let’s practice good fire safety this week and throughout the year!

Our students had a fantastic few days participating in Harvest Days! 🌾

Through fun, hands-on experiences, students had the opportunity to learn, explore, and make connections beyond the classroom. A big thank you to Story and Boone County Conservation, Reiman Gardens, the Iowa DNR, Ag in the Classroom, and the ISU Extension Office for helping make these learning opportunities possible.

We are grateful for the community partners who share their time and expertise to help bring learning to life for our students. ❤️

Comets, we have a new challenge!

We officially reached our $8,000 fundraising goal, and now Mrs. Butler and Marshall are raising the stakes!

If we reach $10,000, they will dress up for a special reveal. What will they wear? That part is still a mystery!

We are just $2,000 away from unlocking the challenge, so keep sharing the fundraiser and encouraging friends and family to participate.

➡️ $8,000 = Goal achieved
➡️ $10,000 = Mrs. Butler and Marshall dress-up reveal

Let’s reach $10,000, Comets! 🌟

Congratulations to Emma Wells, who was nominated by a co-worker for a Stellar Staff Member Award! ⭐️

Emma plays an important role in keeping students, families, teachers, and bus drivers connected. She knows our students and families well, keeps track of countless details, and approaches her work with compassion and care.

Her co-worker described Emma as United’s “golden key” because of the valuable work she does behind the scenes each day. From helping students feel supported to keeping families informed, communicating with colleagues, and finding solutions when challenges arise, Emma helps our entire school community succeed.

Emma’s nomination recognizes the many ways she helps others succeed, communicates “You Matter,” and takes ownership when there is a problem to solve. We are grateful for all she does for United and its families! 🌟
