In the today’s dynamic business environment, information systems have become the engines of business, the means for making better business decisions and the platform for global collaboration. The ability to leverage information technology is now a competitive necessity, and information systems skills have become imperative regardless of business industry, size or geographic location. Accordingly, the Computer Information Systems (CIS) department seeks to develop professionals with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, who are capable of analyzing, designing and implementing innovative business information systems projects; creating competitive advantage by optimizing operational efficiency and furthering strategic goals. The ultimate goals of our department are to grow information systems leaders in industry. Our Computer Information Systems program has curricula that promote solid business acumen and technical fundamentals, arming students with a unique blend of knowledge, and enabling them to serve as the vital bridge between professionals in functional business areas and information technology (IT). We offer a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Computer Information Systems. We live in a Global business environment requiring skills in strategic design and integration of multiple business entities working together to meet the competitive demands of markets today. 🎉 Welcome to our new Graduate Assistant, Alan Sonato-Ruiz!

We're excited to introduce Alan, who has joined us as a Graduate Assistant this semester!

📸✈️ Get to know Alan: He enjoys photography, traveling, reading, watching movies and shows, and spending quality time with family and friends. This semester, Alan is excited to dive into his new program in the STBE department, work with Dr. Hassler to plan out his schedule, and support Dr. Sharpe with his classes!

⚡🔐 Looking ahead, Alan plans to secure a full-time job after graduation, wherever that opportunity may take him. His dream job? Working in the energy sector, handling data and securing systems.

We're excited to introduce Curtis, who has joined us as a Graduate Assistant this semester!

🏀⛳ Get to know Curtis: Outside of work, you'll find him on the basketball court or out on the golf course. This semester, Curtis is especially excited to experience his very first fall season in the mountains — the changing leaves and cooler weather are calling!

📊 Looking ahead, Curtis plans to pursue a career in sports analytics after graduation. His dream job? Becoming a baseball analyst for an MLB team — turning his passion for sports into a career built on data and strategy.

🏙️👗 Looking ahead, Alex plans to move to New York City after graduation, with hopes of working in fashion retail — and eventually launching a business of their own. A perfect blend of creativity and entrepreneurial spirit!

💻 Professional Development in Action: AppITP & Mountaineer Cyber Club

Yesterday was a milestone day for two of our student organizations, as members of AppITP and the Mountaineer Cyber Club (MCC) came together for a full day of hands-on Professional Development — and the energy and effort in the rooms said it all.

🔍 On the cybersecurity side, MCC members dug into Wireshark, building practical, hands-on skills in network traffic analysis. These are the same tools and techniques used by real-world cybersecurity professionals every day — giving our students a genuine head start on the technical foundation employers are looking for.

📄 Meanwhile, AppITP members put weeks of preparation into action. After spending the last two weeks refining resumes and polishing LinkedIn profiles, students used Apply Night to turn that groundwork into real results — submitting applications to internships and full-time roles at their dream companies.

What made yesterday special wasn't just the skills built or the applications sent — it was the reminder that career readiness is a process. Our students didn't just show up; they put in the consistent, behind-the-scenes work over weeks that made yesterday's outcomes possible.

Huge congratulations to everyone who participated. Whether you sharpened a technical skill or clicked "submit" on an application you've been working toward, yesterday was proof of the effort our students are putting into their futures. 🖤💛

We're excited to introduce Jose-Daniel, who has joined us this semester!

🎶📸 Get to know Jose-Daniel: He's a huge music lover and vinyl collector, with a soft spot for tunes from the 1940s and 50s. He also enjoys thrifting — often on the hunt for his next vinyl find — and loves heading to the Blue Ridge Parkway for some photography when he has the time. This semester, he's most excited to take Managerial Accounting, building on his love for accounting from his undergraduate studies!

💻🔐 Looking ahead, Jose-Daniel plans to start his career and gain hands-on experience in the field after graduation. His dream jobs? Becoming a Cyber Insurance Underwriter or an Information Technology Analyst.
