The NC Teaching Fellows Fall Alumni Panel provided App State students with an inspiring opportunity to learn from those who once stood in their shoes.

Teaching Fellows alumni shared reflections on their undergraduate experiences, career journeys, and the lessons they've learned along the way. Through meaningful conversations and practical advice, they encouraged current Fellows to consider their own values, goals, and aspirations as future educators and teacher-leaders.

A heartfelt thank you to our alumni panelists for investing in the next generation of North Carolina Teaching Fellows. Your experiences, wisdom, and encouragement continue to make a lasting impact on our students and the future of education.

Can you believe school is already starting back?! It feels like summer went by so fast! Well, if you are looking for extra support this fall our FREE App State Math Clinics are returning this fall to give local students the extra boost they need to conquer mathematics with confidence.

Whether your child is navigating early elementary mathematics or tackling middle school equations, our dedicated clinics on both the Boone and Hickory campuses are here to provide tailored, high-quality support for students who are struggling with mathematics.

Spaces are limited to ensure quality attention for every student.

Day 4 was a great final day of camp, featuring a visit from undergraduate student Jay St. Hilaire from Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences, a cheesemaking activity, and final presentations for family members, where campers shared their experiences from the week at Camp Inspire!

On Day 3 of Camp Inspire, campers visited the Ashe County Cheese Factory to learn about the science involved in the cheesemaking process. They also made their own pickles to build an understanding of the fermentation process in food preservation.

On Day 2 of Camp Inspire, Dr. Nancy Asan hosted the campers for multiple hands-on activities related to the chemistry of food. Undergraduate student Gretchen Dunn visited to share her experiences as a student in the chemistry department. Campers also participated in STEM-related games and designed an investigation to learn more about the optimal growing conditions for yeast.

From June 15–18, the Mathematics and Science Education Center hosted 12 local middle school students for Camp Inspire 2026. Dr. Rachel Askew and Dr. Leslie Bradbury led the camp, assisted by Middle Grades Education major Kayla Monroe, with additional support from students and faculty in the Departments of Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences. On Day 1, campers participated in icebreaker activities, completed investigations in Dr. Al Schwab's chemistry lab, and began an experiment to determine the optimal growing conditions for mold. It was a great start to an exciting week of camp activities sponsored by the MSEC.

The MSEC is excited to host "Operation Outbreak", a one-day FREE professional development in partnership with the North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research (NCABR) on September 17, 2026.
• Substitute teacher reimbursement up to $120 per participant
• 10 total program hours provided for certified educators to be used towards CEU credits (4 hours of additional work
are optional in addition to the 6-hour workshop)
