Yesterday, 6-27-2022, was unfortunately a record setting day for heavy metal debris removal from the gorge waterfront. Five grills from one ”large event” area, were laboriously carried through the riparian zone and loaded on our truck for transport to disposal. The day total was 992 lbs of trash and debris removed from the river. We will post more soon regarding some specific concerns we are experiencing that are beyond the norm, and severely damaging the waterfront ecosystem. Many recreational users have been helping us reduce volume trash on the waterfront over the past year and are to be commended. A return of enforcement of the existing laws regarding fires and alcohol on NFS land is greatly needed. As many of you know, we work tirelessly to address many complex dynamics on the Scenic River as positively as possible for all involved. Some days however, are literally exhausting and a bit demoralizing. We will be asking for your help in bringing this to the attention of those in the NFS Grandfather Ranger District that may have influence in this regard. We need NFS officer Wade Keener to come out of retirement! 😉 As always, we greatly appreciate your continuing support.
