Music has always been a part of my life through both playing the piano and singing in choirs, ensembles and school choruses. I strive to teach my students how to read music as well as scales and chords. I also help them to memorize and learn what I call "fun" songs that may be beyond their current level. These songs can be worship songs, songs from the radio or movies, etc. I want my students to h
ave fun playing while they are building their knowledge of reading and playing the notes on the piano. I have a reward system in which I give points for practicing, sight-reading and playing their songs well. Students can redeem points for a prize from my prize box - or for online students, they redeem their points are ecards. Older students are given credits which can be used to purchase sheet music or books. Students are encouraged to participate but are not required to do so. (I don't want any student to dread piano lessons because they are fearful of the recital.) Each student plays 2-3 pieces. Students who have completed another year of instruction will receive a trophy. The recital is given at my church in Bonneau. There is a reception following the recital in our fellowship hall. Students are encouraged to invite their family and friends. No admission is charged to those who attend. I prefer payment by the month. I will accept weekly payments in cases of financial need only. Missed lessons must be paid for regardless of the reason. Students are given 2 free "passes" per school year. When the passes are used, payment for those missed lessons is not required. (I will try to help students make up missed lessons if possible but it is not guaranteed.) If there is some kind of sudden change in financial standing, job loss or schedule change, serious illness of an immediate family member or loss in the family, I will, of course, work with you. Aside from these instances, payment is expected for each scheduled lesson. I give regularly scheduled lessons during the public school year.
