This week we are doing a graduated student spotlight on Matthew Keller! Read below to learn more about what he’s been up to since graduating at IMA!

“Im currently employed with the Bureau of Land Management and Ive been a firefighter here for about three years now. Myself and few others on district hold a EMT licenses or higher. On top of the IMA, the BLM puts on their own class called the OMSP where we receive our credited hours to stay certified as well as practice and become proficient in our skills.

I graduated from Idaho Medical Academy in 2022. When I graduated IMA I knew I wanted to become a firefighter whether that be wildland or municipal. My plans never changed and my passion to help others through the fire service only became stronger because of it.

Some advice I would give to future students is to just enjoy the process, there’s a lot of material so don’t be afraid to ask questions. It helped having an instructor like Roger Sherman because he made learning easy, made the class so much more enjoyable. Being engaged in the class and with your classmates is important as well, like having someone to study with.

Something I’m super proud of is that I am now in the position to help others who are going through the same academy, working through all the chapters and being well versed in the skills is just awesome. Theres only been a few instances, which is a good thing, where I have had to utilize what I learned in the academy and implement them in real world scenarios. “

It is Pet Fire Safety Day and we want to take a moment to offer some safety tips to protect your pets:

🐶 Supervise all open flames. Avoid lighting candles in areas where they can be knocked over or pushed down.
🐱 Cover your stove k***s to avoid pets accidentally turning them on.
🐰 Incorporate your pets into your home escape plan. Keep a leash near your home exit just in case!

In the event of a fire, do not every delay your escape to look for your pet. If you cannot quickly locate your pet, exit your home and notify first responders.
