Sam is one of our senior TA’s. Here is some advice she has if you want to become a better software developer,

“Remember to be kind to yourself when you make mistakes. Instead of internalizing them and thinking you aren’t a good developer, see if you can instead find humor in the little errors, forgive and laugh at yourself, and move on!”

07/21/2023

Partner programming is a software development practice where two programmers work together at the same computer, with one typing and the other reviewing and providing input. This approach has several benefits:

Savannah is one of our senior TA’s. Here is some advice she has if you want to become a better software developer,

“Embrace curiosity and don't hesitate to ask questions! It's perfectly fine not to have all the answers, and no one expects you to. As a junior software developer, it's important to start with a broad perspective and grasp fundamental concepts before diving deeper into the areas that pique your interest. Instead of rushing to learn everything, focus on building confidence in your skills. Remember, it's okay to take your time and gradually expand your knowledge!”

“It's crucial for you to dive into consistent practice, eagerly taking on coding challenges and working on personal projects that ignite your passion. As you write code, make it a personal mission to prioritize cleanliness and readability, using meaningful names and diligently documenting your work. Embrace mistakes as valuable learning opportunities and approach them with a growth mindset, knowing that they will shape you into a stronger developer.”

Jordan is one of our rock star TA’s. Here is some advice she has if you want to become a better software developer,

“As you dive into the world of software development, remember to be kind to yourself and try not to compare yourself to others. Imposter syndrome can strike in many fields, but can be especially challenging in the world of programming. Everyone’s software development journeys are different, so it’s key to focus on your own growth and development. Celebrate each of your successes and use your mistakes as learning opportunities!”

If you want to be a better software developer, there are two important things you can do: time boxing and taking breaks. Time boxing means setting specific times to work on tasks. It helps you stay focused and not waste time. Taking breaks means giving your brain a rest from coding. When you code for a long time without breaks, you can get tired, lose focus, and lose creativity.
