“Children display a universal love of mathematics, which is par excellence the science of precision, order, and intelligence.” - Dr. Maria Montessori
“One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child.”

Practical life activities are the activities of everyday life. Generally the activities of practical life revolve around four areas: Caring for the Self, Caring for the Environment, Grace & Courtesy and Movement of Objects.
Write the Room activities reinforces reading and writing words in a fun and easy way! We place words around the classroom and have students write the words on the matching recording sheet. This is one of the most popular writing activities in the classroom all year round.
Montessori math materials create a tactile experience for the child. Manipulatives allow the child to use their sense of touch to grasp mathematical concepts of quantity.
Easter and Spring works are popping up on the shelves. Stay tuned for more information about our annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 14th.
This is how we study the ocean! These are a few of the shelves in both classrooms for the month of June. Beautiful shelves. Doesn’t it make you want to learn more?
“The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn.” - Maria Montessori
Beautiful Mother’s Day pots all lined up and ready to go home. The students hand painted and glittered each pot to be unique.
Montessori Language activities enrich the child's vocabulary, develop his verbal communication skills and lead him to writing and reading through phonics.

It was a beautiful Earth Day! The upstairs class took a nature walk down the road. They were picking dandelions and other flowering weeds, creating an artwork as they went along. Now they can happily pick the dandelions at your house.
At the end of the walk our friendly neighbor let the children pet his horse. The horse’s name is Taffy. He is a 39 year old quarter horse (24 years is a normal lifespan). They are currently trying to find out if he is the oldest horse of his breed. Sweet old horse at the charming red barn down the street.
Montessori says “Follow the child.” After lunch the children wanted to wash the playground. We quickly had large scale practical life work. They want to wash again tomorrow. 😃
Montessori Sensorial Exercises are design to develop the child's five senses to their fullest. The Sensorial Materials enhance memory, promote critical thinking, problem solving, help calm the child, and support social skills.

After lunch the little ones enjoy take turns leading each other through the letter sounds and sight words they have learned, just like Ms. Jan does during circle time.
Montessori Practical Life uses everyday personal grooming, food preparation and cleaning materials. The aim of Practical Life is the coordination of fine- and gross-motor skills. The child's mastery of his movements leads to independence and the ability to sustain concentration.

Imagine falling in love with math as a child. How much easier would school have been? Montessori math materials are a hands-on experience. They gradually lead the child from the concrete to the abstract, thus ensuring a deep rooted comprehension of math concepts.
Today, this child took the leap from concrete to abstract, realizing he could do the math problems without the golden beads. "Ms. Carrie, look, I did it without the beads!"
"The child's greatest teacher is within himself; he has an innate driving force that directs him to what is necessary for his development at any time." Dr. Maria Montessori
“The first essential for the child’s development is concentration. The child who concentrates is immensely happy.”

Knowing where foreign countries are can be challenging even for adults. We are always encouraging our students to look beyond the culture they are used to and see all our world has to offer.
“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences.”
