"Several weeks ago we went on an Outdoor Education hike and looked at a planet display and ever since, our students have been obsessed with space. We decided to make our last week before break about outer space. They each picked a planet and had a choice to either paint it with a paint brush or a tooth brush. Most of them picked a paint brush." -Kalie Marsh, Preschool Teacher

She is a leader in the classroom community and shows kindness towards all peers. I can rely on Maya to lead small groups, keeping everyone focused. Earlier this month, Grade 10 students attended the "Exquisite Creatures" exhibit by Christopher Marley at the Discovery Center of Idaho.
This trip was led by Gerardo Flores-Pacheco, Music Teacher. He said, "The purpose of this trip is to understand and experience the relationship between minimalistic music and art. Music students will be working on their original minimalist composition project inspired by one of Mr Marley's pieces of work."
On Wednesday, our grade 6 Spanish and Mandarin students visited both Campos Market and Asian Capital Market to practice their target language skills as well as their culture understanding.
In the stores, students did a scavenger hunt, had a conversation with the store clerks or their teachers in the target languages.
Our grade 8 students just concluded an in-class debate, arguing whether or not all voices in our Riverstone community have the power to be heard. This debate was the culmination of themes discussed throughout our To Kill a Mockingbird unit, including systems power and privilege within communities.
Members of our administration were present for the debate—including Jeff Paulson, Head of School, and Damon Brown, Middle School Director—giving students the opportunity to make their voices heard!
