Lifeguards are in all walks of life.

Went way up a steep dirt hillside, and she needed help navigating her way down. I wasn't very keen on going up myself, I am a clutz and not confident in my scrambling abilities. Fortunately a very fit dad with his own kid was passing by and offered to assist. He went up to her spot and stayed close as she worked her way down with some direction from him. It was such a kind thing to experience. My daughter dubbed him "The Forest Lifeguard." Lessons in risky play and hopefully she'll take heed in the future with knowing her limits. :)

(I know it doesn't look very steep, but that section with all the roots was quite steep!)

Letting your mind wander might not be a bad thing. Mind-wandering involves a system in our brains called the default mode network, that is most active when your brain is at rest. In turn, it is deactivated when your mind is focused on a behavioral task.

Scientists have more recently found that when our wander it serves a purpose as an important cognitive process. Several regions activate when the mind wanders and what’s more, specific ones depend on what your brain is doing when wandering. More often than not it has found people are thinking about a component from their past or their future when taking a bit of recess. Our brains are designed to problem-solve, so its purpose could be to help us to know how to behave differently in the future.

The amount of mind-wandering into the past is more linked to a negative mood, ruminating (negative thoughts on repeat), or depressive thoughts. Whereas mind-wandering about things in the future are more closely associated with positivity and uplifting thoughts.

It's important to note that letting your mind wander is not the same as being distracted or unfocused. It's a deliberate act of taking a break from a task or activity to let your mind rest and recharge.

So you may want to forgive yourself and others for zoning out or , it is a natural and healthy part of the human experience. We are giving our brain a ‘recess.’

Yes!!!! 💗💗💗

(Balance is the key to using technology. We can be creative with screens, but I will stand by my statement that children are still too overexposed to screens. Childhood is ONCE then over.)

We must teach children to value effort and work with their hands.

Makes no sense.

As many of you know, due to space constraints, the Foundation is no longer able to lease space from Peace Valley Charter School. Since we will no longer be on campus, it is not feasible for the Foundation to continue to run the before and after school programs for PVCS. As such, the Foundation will no longer be operating those programs. There is the possiblility the school itself will be taking over those programs. If you have questions please contact the school directly to inquire about the programs for the upcoming school year.

Also, after months of searching, we were unable to find a suitable commercial location for our preschool, Wildflowers Playgarden. In an effort to maintain continuity of care and in order to continue to have a Waldorf early childhood program in the valley, the Founation has transferred ownership of Wildflowers to our former Interim Director, Laura Henning, to operate as a private entity. She currently has one location out of her home in Boise and is working on plans to open a second location in Meridian in order to serve all the families we were able to serve in a commercial space. The Foundation is so happy it was able to make this transfer so that the Valley's children will continue to have a Waldorf early childhood program available to them. If you have questions regarding Wildflowers, please contact Laura at [email protected].

A excellent overview that hits the main points. Waldorf is very comprehensive and relevant as it was 100 years ago. We must find ways to make it accessible across the globe.

7 Benefits of Waldorf's "Writing to Read" - 06/03/2019

7 Benefits of Waldorf's "Writing to Read" - Waldorf Education starts to set the foundation for reading in kindergarten. Learning to read is allowed to evolve for each child in the same form as it evolved from the beginning of humanity: spoken language developed first, then people drew pictures to communicate their ideas, followed by symbols s...

Renowned Scholar Warns Common Core Education Dumbing Down Kids 05/23/2019

Something to ponder....

Renowned Scholar Warns Common Core Education Dumbing Down Kids With standardized testing and federal programs like Common Core, which focuses mostly on math and English, there is little that teachers are allowed to bring to the learning experience, and creative teaching styles are trivialized and pushed out of the classroom altogether.
