[03/17/21]   If you know any Latino 7th and 8th graders, boys & girls, in Nampa and the surrounding area, please let them know that we are starting the SPRING SESSION, Saturday March 27 at the Hispanic Cultural Center in Nampa! We are aware that next week is spring break, but they can text their name and the name of the school they attend to (208) 869-0115 and someone will call the students/parents back and will reserve a spot. It's first come, first serve. We have room for only 15 students.

[03/16/21]   Baila Conmigo/Dance with me
I was invited to take part on this interview in Spanish about the ballroom dance class that has been part of the Stay-in-School Quinceanera Program. In several sessions, we have also included Mexican Folk Dancing like we are doing this year because of the pandemic.

This is the altar set up by our Quinceaneros at the Hispanic Cultural Center. The students made calaveras, paper flowers dipped in wax, and wrote a poem honoring the soul of a deceased family member.

These are sure special times. Students keeping social distance and wearing masks attending a music workshop on song writing with instructor and musician Angel Bustos at the Hispanic Cultural Center last Saturday!

07/17/2020

After the program, we sat down to enjoy a meal together and our friend and mentor, Honorable Judge Sergio Gutierrez, in his usual humble way shared some words of wisdom. We thank all of those involved!

Yadira Flores Arreguin presenting the wax flowers the students made during her workshops.

07/17/2020

Chris Fonseca who painted the new mural at the HCCI gave us a tour. Ángel Bustos, music teacher and also the on-site coordinator of the summer workshops added his sense of humor that students appreciate.

07/17/2020

Bobby Gaytan introduces the art project based on Calaveras. Each student talks about the person they honored and “un dicho” or some saying that reminded them of such person.

07/17/2020

And here is the traditional song De Colores sang by Ana María accompanied by the students with the recorder, guitar and small maracas. Even though there were some sound system glitches, it went well.

Ángel Bustos introduces his musical accompaniment number.

[07/17/20]   La Negra dance presentation.

07/17/2020

The Recital allows students to demonstrate what they captured during the workshops. Here is Norma Pintar presenting the dance.

07/17/2020

The SSQP Summer Workshops were an enrichment opportunity for the brave students who were willing to spend two weeks learning from professional artists and community leaders: introduction to folklorico dancing with Norma Pintar, art focused in Calaveras with Bobby Gaytan, altar and ofrendas with Ana María Schachtell, wax flowers for corona making with Yadira Flores Arreguin, Latín American mythology with Jacqueline Urrutia Wright, Chicano Literature with Irene Ruiz, instrumental music accompaniment with Angel Bustos, the educational Cuídate!/ peer pressure presentation, a talk on Mental Health with counselor Maria T. Alvarado, and two more plusses: a tour of the new mural at the HCCI with artist Chris Fonseca, and an inspiring talk with Judge Sergio Gutierrez during our recital! Here are some pictures!

07/04/2020

Since we had to cancel our spring program in Nampa, we will conduct Summer Workshops from Tuesday July 7 to Wednesday July 15, but because of coronavirus, will limit the class to 12 students. Our main artists include artists/muralist Bobby Gaytan and Folclórico dancer Norma Pintar. Middle school students are welcome. Times: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. 😀
