Our members are the BEST!
Allow me to introduce Todd Fischer, a Capital Club member who incorporates humor into each of his speeches and his life.
Todd is an engineer by trade and education, a promotor of the polio vaccine, a global traveller, an international businessman and an active Rotarian.
We are fortunate to count Todd as a Capital Club member and a friend!

Capital Club held its annual speech contest last week. The winners of the humorous contest were…drumroll….
Jim Rudolph - 1st Place
Ginger Floerchinger-Franks, PhD - 2nd Place
Jim spoke of his affection for maps, in juxtaposition with society’s disinterest. Most use digital GPS methods of finding places….or not.
Ginger spoke of her eye-catching red boots and her social experiment wearing them for five consecutive days. ‘Those boots were made for wearin’🎼🎶’
Both speeches were of great entertainment value, well-organized and applied Toastmaster presentation techniques. Jim will move on to the area competition slated for:
March 21st, Saturday, noon to 4 pm
At the Center for Spiritual Living
10464 W Garverdale Drive
Boise, ID 83704
Please join us to support Jim!! 🎉🧭

Members posed for a pic after sharing their unique excitement for 2026 and how Toastmasters has been and continues to be a source of personal development, comraderie, weekly giggles and learning! Today, I learned one of the best kept secrets of Pacific islands is Palau! 🤿

Thanks go out to Carol Crosswhite and her hubby Chris Blanchard, for once again hosting our Christmas party! It was fun—while all about warmth and holiday cheer!
The central location is convenient sure but the well-thought-out design and decor drew us all in, and back each year!
Some outstanding contributions this year were Sean and Heather’s beautiful cheese plate, Emily’s loaf of homemade bread—a crowd pleaser, Ginger’s mushroom and wild rice soup, Rick’s vegan chili, roasted veggies from Chris and Carol’s garden (well, maybe some came from the garden), and drum roll…the Cranberry Curd pie decorated with winter sprigs crystallized by sugar was stunning!
There was more but just love the comraderie, conversation and laughter throughout the evening!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Capitol Club Toastmasters!! The best club!

Capitol Club’s meeting this week was full of humor and laughter.
Our Toastmaster Todd Fischer shared his latest trip and shenanigans sailing around the San Juan Islands.
The word of the day was ‘bucket list’ and our ah-grammarian provided some history on the phrase, a precursor to kicking the bucket!
Jim Rudolph, no relation to the famous reindeer, spoke of a work trip to the Chanel Islands with fabulous photos of the wildlife. The gist of the speech was how the wildlife in turn were watching Jim since the island is devoid of humans, electricity, running water and cover. Jim pushed himself to act out part of the story and emit animal noises. Bravo Jim! 👏🏻
Next meeting’s speech is from Todd and sure to elicit giggles—join us!!

Sean Brown, Capitol Club president, explains our meeting next week as we all practice, then are evaluated on our elevator speeches!
Most of us take an elevator on occasion and get the opportunity to spend a New York minute introducing ourselves.
Come fine tune your elevator speech by joining us around noon on Wednesday at Smoky Mountain Pizza on Park Center.
BTW, indefatigable or untiring was our word of the day this week. Only a couple used it during the meeting, perhaps because it is six syllables!

This is us after the meeting and hearing Noel speak about traveling in Wander Vans through the Utah National Parks.
Welcome to Billy, our newest member taking this most excellent selfie!
