toastmasters.org Funny thing about people. We try to avoid pain more than we strive for gain. Most people tend to focus on the negative rather than the positive. [08/29/20]   Toastmasters has a lot to teach anyone who has the will to learn, and a little time.
One of the things I learned, which may not count for much, considering the many things I've learned, is to control your blinking.
Steady eye contact makes people pay attention while you are speaking.

Last but certainly not least....Clair Walsh is our VP of Education for 2020-2021

Clair is responsible for most of the meeting scheduling assisted by the weekly Toastmaster--the meeting Emcee. She also shares her knowledge with new members and helps keep the club running smoothly. Previously she served as Vice President of Membership.

Clair is a transplant from Maryland, moving to heaven, aka Boise, 5 years ago. She joined the Capitol Club 4 years ago.

Toastmasters has helped her learn to be a more articulate communicator and a better listener who is conscious of what the speaker is saying and how they are saying it. Clair never thought she could be a storyteller but she's learning just that craft through the Toastmasters program.

Clair invites anyone wishing to improve their communication skills with a fun group of motivated people to join in the weekly meeting at the Capitol Club.

Please meet our new Vice President of Membership....Jennifer Martinez

Jennifer joined Toastmasters last year to work on her speaking and presenting skills. She found that while she was comfortable with giving simple scripted speeches, she found her anxiety would rise anytime she had to speak off the cuff. By coming to Toastmasters regularly she has not only been able to work on her prepared speeches and become a more effective presenter but also to learn to speak about different subjects with little to no preparation. She even won a Table Topics(short unprepared speech) contest in the club and was able to compete in a local tournament.

When not in Toastmasters Jennifer is busy with her family including three adult children and dogs, Peyton and Winston. Recently Jennifer decided to take the leap and go back to school and is also pursuing a Real Estate license. She is also a volunteer Wish Granter with Make-a-Wish and has been busy helping grant wishes for the last 5 years. She enjoys time in the foothills, on the water and anything else outdoors they can come up with.

Meet Carol Crosswhite, our Mentor Coordinator for 2020 - 2021.... Carol Crosswhite

I joined Toastmasters in May, 2016 to improve my one-on-one and small group setting communication. Toastmasters is known to help you become a better public speaker but I just needed help in speaking more professionally with colleagues and clients. Toastmasters can help you reach a myriad of speaking goals! The supportive environment of Capitol Club Toastmasters has helped me to persist in spite of my flaws.

I have worked in the surety industry for over 35 years, the last 15 years have been at Swiss Re as a Surety Bond Underwriter. When not working I enjoy spending time with my 3 grandkids and in my garden. My husband and I have an awesome family of humans, 2 rescue pitbulls, 2 housecats and a few rescued feral cats.
