WHAT: This summer, I will challenge myself to train for a
WHY: Gap years are all about growth, which requires students to step out of their comfort zones and choose to be challenged in different ways. An intentional gap year asks students to embrace a GROWTH MINDSET, viewing challenges as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than barriers. My personal challenge embodies the gap year spirit of LIFELONG LEARNING.
WHO: The Gap Year Association (GYA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making gap year opportunities more accessible and widely accepted as vital to educational, personal, and professional growth. I’m excited to contribute to this fundraising effort, which will support a GAP YEAR SCHOLARSHIP FUND and GYA’s ongoing efforts to support gap year education and advocacy.

These difficult times can be overwhelming for all of us as the unknowns continue to challenge our understanding of what is happening in real time, as well as our ability to think ahead and assess what decisions will need to be made in the future.
This is, certainly, just as true for adolescents and emerging adults as it is for those in the adult work world. Questions about schooling and college life, admissions requirement changes, issues related to college completion, and tracking possible transformations in occupational and career choices all leave students and post college young adults with possible anxieties and confusion about what to do now and in the near term.
In this challenging time we offer our availability to current, prospective and former clients, parents and their children. You may have even the simplest of questions that we can contribute to in terms of perspective and insights as we track trends in both secondary and higher education, as well as the world of occupations and careers. Please do not hesitate to reach out or encourage your child to be in touch throughout the next weeks and months. The EMERGE College Success Program integrates mentoring, advocacy and student support services into the college experience for students on campus or at a distance.
EMERGE College Success Program specializes in transitional services with an expertise in advising families of young adults who have experienced the challenges in a traditional classroom setting. Student's typically struggle with a learning differences, emotional challenges and/or behavioral difficulties. EMERGE possesses a comprehensive knowledge of these components leading to independent living and the ability for our young adults to emerge.

Emerge provides educational consulting, including therapeutic wilderness, school, and program placement and case management, college advising for students who have experienced emotional, behavioral and/or learning challenges, career exploration and guidance for emerging adults in transition. In addition, our Emerge College Success Program offers support and coaching for students enrolled in college. Students are encouraged to also consider our "Gap Year" options offered through Trek Epic, a non profit organization.
Clients have the opportunity to work directly with Andrew Bryan and Kylie Peters to gain insight and experience toward making positive choices about their futures. Students work directly with Andrew and Kylie to design and implement their own transition, whether from high school to college, through a Gap Year experience with Trek Epic, re-entry to college life or beginning their work life and career. Each individual’s experience is unique and entails ongoing mentoring and consulting. Often, college planning is a consideration either prior to or during one’s choices and activities.
Students engage in educational consulting typically prior to the start of college, at sometime during college, or immediately after college. The consistent theme at any of these stages is transition. Andrew and Kylie draw on their expertise in helping students create opportunities for themselves that allow for grow and insight into their next steps. With a developing sense of meaning toward a path, students are able to both come into their own and take greater responsibility for their plans.
Through the Emerge process, students are able to engage in studies and potential careers that are more dynamic to who they are and to better follow through with their goals and dreams. In other words, the Emerge is all about working toward answers to the following questions:
Who am I?
What do I care about?
What kind of impact do I want to make on the world?
How do you get there from here?
From a collaborative standpoint, Andrew, Kylie, and the students they work with are able to more effectively communicate with parents and other adults where these key role models are able to provide support in a way that still leaves students living more independently.
Emerge may include individualized activities such as educational travel, internships, volunteering, work opportunities, as well as college and career planning.
Students working with Andrew and Kylie often participate on a Trek Epic adventure to gain an understanding of the difference between their skills and talents, and how to interact with the world around them in ways they can best contribute through their core gifts.
