This National Farmworker Awareness Week, make sure to donate long sleeve shirts for our local farmworkers. Drop off boxes can be found at the BSU CAMP office or the Community Council of Idaho office. Donations will be accepted until April 3rd.

“Estoy muy feliz, gracias a Dios pude obtener mi GED. A pesar que muchas veces quise darme por vencida, siempre hubo personas que me motivaron a seguir adelante con mi meta. No fue fácil porque después de 20 años volví a leer un libro, volví a resolver un problema de matemáticas y también volví a sentirme como niña estudiando de nuevo.

Aprendí que no todo lo podemos lograr en el primer intento, pero con esfuerzo y dedicación todo se puede lograr. Nada es fácil pero tampoco imposible. Quiero dar gracias infinitas a mi maestra Angeles por su paciencia y dedicación, también quiero agradecer a todo el equipo de HEP. Mi experiencia con ustedes fue muy bonita, todos son muy amables y con una energía siempre positiva y que hacen sentir que uno se tenga confianza en sí mismo con sus palabras llenas de positividad que alientan a seguir adelante y así llegar al éxito 🙌 mi consejo para los estudiantes es que nunca se den por vencidos, por más difícil que sea la prueba siempre hay solución.”

“I am very happy, thank God I was able to get my GED. Although I wanted to give up many times, there were always people who motivated me to continue with my goal. It was not easy because after 20 years I read a book again, I solved a math problem again and I also felt like a young girl studying again.

I learned that not everything can be achieved on the first try, but with effort and dedication everything can be achieved. I want to give infinite thanks to my teacher Angeles for her patience and dedication, I also want to thank the entire HEP team. Everyone always has positive energy and their words encourage you to keep going to achieve success 🙌 my advice to students is to never give up. No matter how difficult the test is there is always a solution.”

We would like to congratulate our most recent graduate, Judith Gomez, on completing her GED! Judith is from Caldwell, ID. Here’s what she had to say:

“My experience with HEP was so sweet to say the least. Everyone is very welcoming and you feel a genuine connection with the people who are there to offer you guidance on whatever your journey may be. I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to be surrounded by such a loving staff that pushed me to succeed. My plans consist of joining the military, specifically the Marines. I’m set to go to bootcamp in July in San Diego and be one of the first women to graduate from there, followed by my years of active duty. I would like to thank my teacher Madi for being patient and kind and making sure I was surrounded by an environment full of nothing but positive energy.”

We are so proud of you, Judith, and we are excited for your future!

ACLU of Idaho invites you to their Los Caminos de la Vida art exhibition this Thursday! The event will showcase the stories of 11 different undocumented individuals living in Idaho, using photography and audio by each storyteller. We hope you can join!

Last week, some of our students had the opportunity to view artwork by Eddie Melendrez at the Hispanic Cultural Center. We would like to thank Chicano Art-Eddie Melendrez for taking the time to share his art and background with us. The experience was deeply appreciated, especially considering the representation of the farm working community and Latine culture in the artwork.

For those that have an interest in seeing some of Eddie’s work, the art exhibition will be open to the public until October 15. We definitely recommend checking it out!

La semana pasada, algunos de nuestros estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de ver obras de arte de Eddie Melendrez en el Centro Cultural Hispano. Nos gustaría agradecerle a Eddie por tomarse el tiempo para compartir su arte y experiencias con nosotros.
