Over the last year, I have had it on my heart to start something new. I have read that if you cannot find the perfect book to read, or want to read about a particular book and cannot find it, WRITE IT YOURSELF! No, I am not going to write a book, yet. However, I have decided to create a Social Learning/ Professional Learning Group, entitled P5. I have seen many of these groups/tribes pop up over social media over the last few years, and have been waiting for a group for me. I have not found one. So, I created one myself.
P5 is for preservice to 5th year teachers who are or will be teaching preschool to 5th grade. Social Media, Classroom, Blogger support. Engaging activities on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and more. Possible opportunities for lesson ideas, examination assistance, inspiration, Social Media loops, Social Media Hops, Giveaways, and more!

I asked our Idaho Education Association's Student Program Co-Chair, Tiffany Watts to summarize this weekend's Student Professional Development at University of Idaho and this is what she said:
We had a fantastic turnout for the University of Idaho's 1st Annual Aspiring Educators Professional Development Day! Receiving the NEA Student Program CREATE Grant and ASUI funding enabled our student chapter to provide sessions such as Degrees not Debt and Classroom Management. We had IEA experts come from all over Region 2, and their knowledge was invaluable.
I would like to thank all the attendees, presenters, and committee members for making this day a success! Of course, all of this couldn't have been accomplished without our amazing adviser Ingrid Spence!

The IEA and a strong cross-section of public school supporters have staved off Idaho's latest voucher bill. Please continue to use the Protect Idaho's Public Schools website. Use this site to post your stories about how public schools made a difference for you and/or our your children. We'll compile the stories and use them to show how important our public schools are for Idaho communities. https://idahoea.org/vouchers/
We are thrilled to share the news that HB 590, the private school voucher bill, has been pulled from the legislative agenda and is dead for this session. Profound thanks to all of the education groups and the broad coalition that fought to Protect Idaho's Public Schools and defeat this unnecessary and dangerous bill. Statement from IEA President Kari Overall is below, with more information coming in the Hotline tonight. #idedu #idleg #idpol
"We are glad to hear that the ill-conceived HB 590 has been pulled and will not be moving forward. Our public schools are critical parts of Idaho neighborhoods and communities, and it is imperative that we protect their funding and integrity.
As we have said since HB 590 first surfaced, a private school scholarship program does not need legislative approval or oversight from any government agency. We all recognize the importance of reaching at-risk and special needs students, and Idaho’s public schools will continue striving to meet the needs of every student in every classroom. Investing in our public schools and providing them with the resources they need is the best way to ensure that all students are getting the educational experience they deserve."
