Changes for the Art School
After 12 years of filling a niche in the homeschool and Boise community, the Art School will change hands and name. The mission of the Art School will remain the same, a safe environment for children and youth to develop skills and create art. As the founder of the Art School, the decision was made easy when I realized that my dear friend Gillian Pishl would be the perfect fit for continuing the foundations that started this delightful journey all those years ago.
Gillian has cherished art for most of her life. Her earliest memories are of painting and drawing, and her enjoyment of creativity runs deep. She is a local artist getting back into the art world after taking a short break after having her first child. Gillian is thrilled to offer art classes for children and teens ages 8-18. Oil and Acrylic has two art classes scheduled with the possibility of more as interest increases. The first is Drawing and Design, and the second is Multi-Media (recommended for ages 8-12). To read details about the classes, head to her website www.oilandacrylic.com under the Lessons tab. Art classes can be purchased month-by-month or a semester at a time for a discount. Please feel free to contact Gillian directly at [email protected] with any questions. Above all else, her primary goal during art lessons is to foster confidence and enjoyment of creativity.
Oil and Acrylic will start classes on September 1st, space is limited, and there will be a waitlist option. Classes will be held in her home, located near Riverglen Jr. High School in Boise.
The creative journey I traveled with you and your artists has been rewarding and awe-inspiring. How grateful I am for your trust and support. My journey in creating, teaching, and helping will continue in a new direction as I complete a master's program in Art Therapy.

Hello Art School followers, we will be taking a break for the summer.
Finishing the school year with water color pencil artwork.
…the creating process continues…
The start of something beautiful.
Wire and movement
Each week I ask the artists to step outside their comfort zone of “go-to” drawings when they are presented with a line. I typically draw people, flowers or animals. Today one of my students drew a line for me (the teal one) and I took my own advise. These line drawings are to take about 5 minutes.
Clay work is finished.
Learning to draw portraits.
Before and after skill development.
Abstract landscapes are now finished. Melted crayon on canvas.
Working on something new, melted-crayon on canvas. Abstract landscape.
Sculpey clay creations are nearing the final stages.
Yesterday, we explored creating abstract art with tissue paper. There is still a bit of work to accomplish, but overall I am pleased with the start.
Finished! I enjoyed the drawing the playfulness of this photo.
My view when teaching.
Time to draw!

Playing with value and color
Time for Quick Draw!!!
The first object you see draw it in 30ish seconds with your eyes closed. Flip your paper and draw the same object again in the same amount of time, this time with your eyes open- but you must keep your eyes on the object- no peeking!!
Post your accomplishments to this feed!!
Here is mine.
After waiting for weeks in hopes of posting the exciting news of Fall classes, The Art School will continue in a holding pattern. I will begin posting activities and skill lessons for all interested.
I am working to finish art pieces.
Several weeks ago, while on a walk, I my heart was lifted as I spotted colorfully painted rocks strategically placed or tucked carefully along the sidewalk. Then a week ago I spotted this sign and selected a couple of rocks left for the purpose of sharing. Let’s spread this wonderful idea all over!💕
It is springtime!
We can see that trees and flowers are growing!
Draw what is happening under the ground to bring life to what we are seeing above the ground. The drawing can be real or make believe. Remember you are the artist!
I made myself a little book. You can do the same thing to make a sketch book!!
Take some time to
Draw a rooster playing the violin while dancing on the fence.
Drawing prompt: Draw a chair that comes alive when someone sits in it.
If you have a pet- draw them, or draw a portrait of the pet you want. Post your drawings in the comments!
Today please create a piece of art to make others smile.
You can post your work in the comments.
With all of you at home and with all the pictures of COVID-19 cells out there, time to make some art using those cells. Have some fun- think outside the box. Use patterns, colors, abstract.. etc. Draw, paint, or wire- the options are limitless! Make a comic even!
You can post the results on my page in the visitor post or text them to me! I will post my version at the end of the day, before I retire for the night.
Check back tomorrow for a new prompt!
