Join the Boise State Talkin' Broncos Alumni Chapter on a river rafting trip down the Snake River for a one-day adventure, hosted by alumnus Talkin’ Bronco, David Gardner on Aug. 1.

We will be taking to the water and enjoying each other’s company amidst Idaho’s great outdoors! Daniel and his expert river guides will lead us through thrilling rapids, explain Idaho’s history along our route, and provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy Idaho’s rivers at their best. This will also be a great time to catch up with other Talkin” Bronco alumni and hear about how your teammates have been doing.

RSVP by July 9.

Boise State University

Congratulations to the Pi Kappa Delta National Championship Boise State University Speech and Debate team who continued their 2021 national season with the second-place overall tournament win at the National Comprehensive Tournament (NCT) in Cincinnati. The tournament, hosted remotely March 18-21, included competitors from University of Alabama, Morehouse College, Texas State University, Minnesota State University – Mankato, Howard University, and Rice University.

“This is the best showing we’ve ever had at the NCT” said Manda Hicks, director of forensics. “Boise State has attended four times in the last 15 years and keeps getting better. To go from being a top 10 school in 2010 to fifth overall in 2014, fourth overall in 2016, and second overall in 2021 is a lovely trajectory that shows growth and an expanded presence across multiple national organizations and competitions.”

In Individual Events (IE), Alma Ceja (junior, Hailey) was the national champion in Spanish language interpretation and took fourth-place in program oral interpretation. Ceja was recognized as the tenth-best IE competitor out of a field of over one thousand entries.

In Public Forum (PF) Debate, the team of Bryce Funkhauser (senior, Meridian) and Zac Maggard (junior, Nampa) took third-place overall on a 1-2 decision in the semi-final round. Maggard received the tournament’s ninth-place speaker award.

Boise State Talkin' Broncos

Hi Talkin' Broncos!

Congratulations on NCT and another successful season.

I am reaching out because a member from the Prison Debate Program, Chris Shanahan, will be featured as a panelist this afternoon at the Law Symposium on mass incarceration to share his personal story navigating the carceral system.

He wanted to be sure to extend the invitation to the Talkin' Broncos.
One of my favorite ways to engage with my alma mater from out-of-state is signing up to send Bronco spirit cards to admitted students encouraging them to choose BSU. I look forward to this activity every February.
Congratulations to the Pi Kappa Delta National Championship Boise State Speech and Debate team who started their 2021 national season with the overall tournament win at the 23rd Annual Gorlok Gala at Webster University in St. Louis. The tournament, hosted remotely January 29– 31, included 65 schools from 22 states including Penn State, Texas State University, Minnesota State University, Mankato, University of Illinois Chicago, Tennessee State University, University of Kentucky, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“Online competition turned this into the largest Gorlok Gala in the tournament’s history” said Manda Hicks, director of forensics. “In 23 years, this is the third time Boise State has won the Gorlok – winning the biggest Gorlok on record is quite an accomplishment and gives the team a very clear vision of what they are capable of at the national level.”

The Boise State Talkin' Broncos continue their 2020-2021 season with their second national tournament, the Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament, hosted by TCU – Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. The Talkin’ Broncos are the 2019-2020 Pi Kappa Delta National Champions in Speech and Debate and are supported in part through the generosity of the Jeker Family Trust.
