Serving Future Educators! The TRIO Teacher Preparation Program (TPP) is funded by the US Department of Education to increase Boise State University’s College of Education retention and graduation rates for first-generation, limited income and/or students with disabilities.

TRIO has a history dating back to 1964 and has served millions of students over the past half century. Tonight (Monday, Oct. 26th):

1. Help me Vote! Your Right as A Voter! (6:30pm): The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is hosting an event exclusively for TRIO students about how to vote in the upcoming election. Stop by this virtual event to learn more about the importance of voting, how to vote, and your rights as a voter. This is sure to be a timely and informative session!

1. Nightmare on Zoom Street – A Halloween Game Night (6:00pm): TRIO Peer Mentors Paulina and Elvine will be hosting a game night via Zoom! Come dressed in costume, the best costume will win a prize! We will be playing 20 questions, kahoot, and charades. Come join the Halloween fun!

2. Election 2020 - Challenges and Predictions (7:00pm): Head on over to this event directly after the Halloween game night to learn more about the upcoming election. Boise State’s political scientists will be hosting a pre-election panel discussion on voting, polling, partisanship, and more. They will also be answering any questions you may have.

Join the TRIO peer mentors this Saturday, September 26th, for a hike at the military reserve! Peer mentors Julianna, Jessica, and Heather will be leading a 1.5 mile hike in the lower Boise Foothills, with the option of going farther if everyone feels up to it. Be sure to bring a face mask and a bottle of water.

Meet the 2020-2021 TRIO Cohort!

Many of our TRIO students are taking part in online and remote learning this year, which means that our incoming TRIO Rising Scholars and TRIO Teacher Prep students won’t be able to meet their fellow TRIO participants in person for a while. We will be watching the film Miracle in Cell No. 7 via Netflix Party. Netflix Party synchronizes the movie so everyone can watch at the same time from their own homes. There is also a group chat, so it’s (almost) like everyone is hanging out together!

On February 29th, TRIO students at Boise State celebrated National TRIO Day. The day began with volunteer activities around the community and culminated in a fancy gala event planned and implemented by the TRIO Peer Mentors.

At the TRIO Gratitude Gala, students from both TRIO Teacher Prep and TRIO Rising Scholars, dressed in their best formal attire, gathered to express their appreciation for TRIO while also enjoying dinner, dancing, and ice cream. Thank you to all who showed up and made this event a great success!

This Friday, November 8th, is nationally recognized as the third annual First-Generation College Celebration Day! To honor this celebration, Boise State will be holding events and informational sessions all week long, culminating in a celebration this Friday, from 3:00-5:00 PM in the Jordan Ballroom in the SUB.

We would encourage you to attend the celebration on Friday and any other events as well!

TRIO Staff and Students will be involved at the events this week to support the many first-generation students in TRIO and elsewhere on campus!

A huge thank you to all the TRIO students, staff, and members of the Boise State campus community who participated in the TRIO Food Drive during the month of February! A total of 354.8 lbs of food and personal items, as well as $600 of financial donations were collected and donated to the Campus Food Pantry. Thank you to all who helped make this event a success!

The TRIO Food Drive starts tomorrow!

In honor of National TRIO Day on Saturday, Feb. 23, the Boise State TRIO Programs are organizing a donation drive to give back to the Boise State community. We will be accepting donations of food and personal items starting Friday, February 8th – February 22nd, in designated locations. All donations will be given to the Boise State food pantry.

This is a great opportunity to give back to Boise State and help out fellow students in need!

Halloween pumpkin carving! This Wednesday, October 31st! Drop-in anytime between 11:00am -2:00pm and join TRIO Staff and other TRIO Students from Teacher Prep, Rising Scholars, and Veteran’s Upward Bound for pumpkin carving. Pumpkins and carving utensils will be provided and a best designed pumpkin contest will be voted on. Costumes are encouraged!
