opportunities for students to explore, understand, and draw conclusions with other people, cultures, and historical experiences. For example, during a monthly international country of study, students will explore the historical, political and geographic aspects of the country. In addition, they may listen to music, create art, perform folk tales, taste meals, grow crops and/or play games indigenous to the country. Longfellow is a service driven school. Our WAVE club chooses several different service projects each year to serve our community both locally and globally. We have raised money to buy sensory bins and wagons for a local special needs school, helped buy filters for clean water in Africa, collected sources of light that don't require electricity for Ukrainians, and helped raise money to provide school supplies to impoverished schools surrounding Gorongosa National Park. Some of our service events are as simple as collecting candy for Veterans, making blankets for Ronald McDonald House, or reading to animals at the Humane Society. Whether near or far, our goal is to teach our students empathy for others, and the power they have to create change. At our school we believe it takes an "entire village" to educate our children and ask for your involvement in your child's education. Only with a cooperative effort on the part of students, parents, school personnel, and our community, will we reach our goal of providing the best education possible for our children. We encourage you to seize every opportunity to become involved in your child's education and be a part of the Longfellow family.
