Longfellow came out big tonight! Our 80s skate party was so much fun! We had 191 skaters not counting all of the bystanders.
Special guests Mr. Bright, Mrs. Poppy, and Mrs. Albert showed up to skate and cheer us on.
Please send any pictures you have to
[email protected] with “skate night” in the re line.

Get your 80s on and come skate with the school school! Parents, teachers, and students, join us for a night of skating tomorrow night, paid for by the PTO. The only thing you pay for is your food and drink.

Longfellow Staff Appreciation Time! 10/13/2022

Longfellow Staff Appreciation Time!

Conference week is coming up! Longfellow loves our teachers, and we are going to leave some extra love in the break room. Below is a sign up genius so you can share the love as well.
On the sign up genius is our list of staff favorites if you would like to bring in some particular favorites.

Longfellow Staff Appreciation Time! Help us thank our amazing staff by keeping them energized, fed, and happy during the long conference days October 19 and 20! PTO will be providing lunch on Thursday, Oct 20th. We're asking parents to help us fill the staff room with sweet treats, fun coffee mix-ins, and energizing snacks(think chips...

Another great Wagons Ho at Longfellow! Mr. And Mrs. C know how to command respect and give kids the time of their life all at once.
When it was over one child said “I’ll remember this day for the rest of my life!” Follow by many “me too”!
There may have been lightning that sent the kids inside for a bit, but that didn’t stop Mr. C from teaching the kids how to make a rope and light it on fire right in the gym!

Mark your calendars for October 13th from 6-8:30!

Your Longfellow PTO is hosting an 80s themed Family Skate Night at Treasure Valley Skate!

Don't skate? Come watch as some of your Longfellow favorites roll and spin in their very best neon, polos, and acid wash.

All you pay for is your food and drinks.

Come hang out and mingle with your fellow Longfellow families.

Please share with everyone you know!
Can't wait to see you there!

Plan to join us for the first PTO meeting of the school year on September 7th at 3:30 pm. Meet in the school library.
We will have elections, budget approval, and new school updates at this meeting.

Longfellow family, we can not wait to see you this week!

Our PTO has unanimously voted on the biggest anti inflation package we can offer you this 22-23 school year.

Although the cost of tee shirts went up for us, the PTO will be covering the inflation and continue selling shirts for only $15!

Once again we will be selling an amazing new tee shirt for Longfellow parents, teachers, and students to wear proudly.

This year’s design was the work of our very own Artist in Residence, Rachel Murphy, and it is amazing!

Look for the PTO table on the first day. Buy a shirt, and sign up to volunteer at one or more of our amazing events. Our school is only as good as our volunteers.

That’s why we’re great!

Cash and Venmo accepted.

Big congrats to Carson Hampton, son of Longfellow librarian Kim Hampton! He won the Cat 1/2/3 Mens Criterium at the Bailey-Glasser Twilight Criterium in downtown Boise. Excited to share the moment with proud mom and dad Kimberly Fouret Hampton and Brandon Hampton! Keep an eye on this kid.

Teachers and families, post pictures of your summer in the comments!

Happy Father’s Day to all our Longfellow dads!

Mrs. Poppy’s 3rd/4th graders did a great thing yesterday. They went to Sonrise Manor, a transitional housing residence to do yard work and donate some snacks. Ruby Hopstead’s grandpa, Larry gave each child a red nose for and made each child a shirt with their name on it, along with the saying “Do something good today”! He also made a monetary donation for future snacks.
Thank you Larry for your amazingly generous heart, thanks to the 3rd/4th graders who worked pulling weeds because you wanted to help, and thanks to Mrs. Poppy for nuturing our children’s kind hearts.

Today was amazing! Big thanks to Mr. and Mrs. C with Wagons Ho for coming out to our school today!
They had all the 4th graders, plus the 5th and 6 th graders who missed this event because of Covid.
The kids were taken on a trip to pioneer life for the entire day.
They roped steer, cut shingles, started fires, branded wood, washed clothes with rocks, made and polished buttons, sawed logs, branded wood, punched and stamped leather, churned butter and more!
The day ended with a Battle Field of spoon races, potato sack races, three legged races, and ended in the tug of war battle royale!
4th boys beat 4th girls
5th girls beat 5th boys
6th girls beat 6th boys
5th girls beat 4th boys
And 6th girls clinched the championship with a win against 5th girls.

Thanks to Wagons Ho for coming to us, thanks to parents and teachers for making it happen, and thanks to the kids for enthusiastically participating in every activity.
Yee Haw!!

👏👏👏👏👏 Nice job Longfellow! The hot temperature, cold drink weather is coming, Please save all those summer drink tabs for the fall!

Just One Africa Water Filters in Kenya 04/21/2022

Just One Africa Water Filters in Kenya

Tomorrow is our Walk for Water! You are welcome to come out and walk with your favorite Longfellow cougar too!

We are walking as a hands on lesson for our children to have the smallest understanding of what it would be like to walk miles in the heat to fetch water, then have to walk home with only what you could carry, and still have to filter it once you got home. How much more would you think about water waste if you had to do that each time you needed water?

Our students will walk with gallon jugs of water around the track for 30 minutes, wearing the tee shirts we purchased to raise money for Just One Africa, and their mission to get clean water to the 18 million (43%) Kenyans who do not have access to clean water. Every one of the tee shirts you purchased supplies water to 2 Kenyans.

The class walk times are as follows:

3rd/4th grade 9:30-10:00

5th/6th grade 10:00-10:30

K/1st/2nd grade 10:30-11:00

Grown Ups don't have to sign in at the office. They can just meet us at the track behind the school.

As an extra incentive, MiiR water bottle company has donated one water bottle per grade that will be won in a raffle after the walk.

Below is a video from Just One Africa:

The Longfellow Carnival is making a comeback in 2022! This is always a night of family fun for all. Mark your calendars for Friday, May 13th from 5-9 pm. The carnival is paid for with PTO funds, which makes everything but the food trucks free!

We will have a 60 ft inflatable obstacle course, a 20 ft high inflatable slide, an inflatable bungee run, swings, a bounce house for the youngest kids, tattoos, face painting, a balloon artist, cotton candy, as well as food trucks from Pie Hole, Cup Bop, and Kona Ice.

All we need from you is grown up volunteers to help keep everyone safe. It's as simple as giving 30 minutes of your time to man a station. Please check out the sign up genius to see how you can help pull this off!

Thank you!

As you probably know, we are studying Kenya this month, and more specifically we are learning about their struggle for clean water.
On Earth day we are doing a walk for water on the track out back. Kids and parents will walk with gallon jugs of water around the track for 30 minutes. One child from each class will win a MiiR water bottle.

Here’s what we need: GALLON WATER BOTTLES!
Not because we don’t have the funds, but because stores have a limit of 2. They run about $1.25 a gallon. If you could pick up two each time you’re at the store we would be happy to reimburse you.

After our walk the water will be donated to shelters.
Water can be turned into Mrs. Beddoes, Mrs. Poppy, or the front desk.

Thank you!
