Step Ahead Idaho

Welcome Blessed faith orphanage Arusha Tanzania+255675528392
Sue Lovelace and Step Ahead Idaho helped two of my grandsons put together very successful applications to college. I'm looking forward to having them help the third one in a few years. Congratulations to them for their successful application and grant selection from Idaho Womens Charitable Foundation this year.
Our Academic Advantage event is next Saturday! We still have a few spots left, so RSVP now for free admission to learn from local medical experts and colleges about how to prepare for success in a healthcare career. Plus, you could win a scholarship!

Boise State University, Boise Bible College, Lewis-Clark State College, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho, Boise Rescue Mission Ministries, The Idaho Foodbank, Global Service Partnerships, Boise Parks and Recreation, Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center, West Valley Medical Center Junior Volunteers, and Step Ahead Idaho will be present to provide expert guidance for local students.

RSVP here:
Every day, nonprofits work together to make our community a better place. Today, Idaho Gives Day, prompts us to stop and think about all the nonprofit organizations we partner with, like Lee Pesky Learning Center, St. Luke's Health System, Saint Alphonsus, West Valley Medical Center, Meridian Library District, United Way of Treasure Valley, Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho, Boise Rescue Mission Ministries, Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County, Step Ahead Idaho, Women's and Children's Alliance, Boise Bicycle Project, Treasure Valley Safe Routes to School program, Idaho Youth Ranch, Treasure Valley Education Partnership, Create Common Good, One Stone, Life's Kitchen, International Rescue Committee, American Red Cross of Greater Idaho, Special Olympics Idaho, AND MORE!

Get involved in the philanthropy of today and give to an organization you are passionate about. Trust us, it will feel great!
Don't forget to "assign" your recommending teachers!
Boise School District seniors, watch this video to understand how you get Naviance to communicate with the Common Application.
If you are struggling with a problem on the Common Application (like activity data fields disappearing if you reorder your activities!) check this status update before you panic. They know about the problems and are fixing them. Sigh.
This is critical advice! If you've already submitted the application to a school and see errors or need to make changes for the rest of your colleges, you can create a new version. Don't create a new account!
If you're a senior working on the Common Application, please take a look at this post before you panic about technical problems you may be having. It's a new program, and yes, there are bugs.
The Y Drop In Center is open every Wednesday and Thursday, 3-6 PM. We'd love to help you get started on college applications, figure out where to apply, talk about essay topics and more! We're at the bottom of the stairs at the Boise Downtown YMCA at 11th and State!
Students, if you're working on the Common Application, beware of these two issues.
We'll be at the Y today, but our hours are a little shorter:

4 PM to 6 PM!

We care about the health of our community, so we're closing our Drop-In Centers until the end of March. At that point, we'll re-evaluate meeting students in person.

In the meantime, we know many of you are at critical phases of your college process.

Seniors, you will be weighing financial aid packages and choosing your college.

Juniors, you're trying to figure out when and if ACT, SAT, and AP testing will take place, and how to prepare, in a time of uncertainty.

Please know, just because our door is locked doesn't mean we aren't available. Reach out to us by email through our website, and let's set up a phone call or virtual meeting (like Zoom!) We're also practicing "social distancing" but now is the time to embrace the technologies we have!

Take care of yourselves!

Coronavirus Impact on Campus Visits - College Kickstart 03/10/2020

Coronavirus Impact on Campus Visits - College Kickstart

Update to Campus Visit advice!

I'm sharing a link to a list of colleges that may be limiting visits, canceling tours and info sessions, or actually closing for the rest of the academic year.

If you have travel plans to campuses over Spring Break, please check this list before you go!

Coronavirus Impact on Campus Visits - College Kickstart College Kickstart empowers students to craft sensible college plans that maximize odds and minimize wasted motion.

Should you cancel your Spring Break college visit trip?

It's true: some colleges are asking students not to visit, in light of the COVID19 virus.

However, if you've signed up for tours and information sessions, keep any eye on your email for further instructions.

Some colleges are going ahead with tours as usual, some are consolidating sessions, and others haven't quite made up their minds yet.

Do consider your own health and that of those traveling with you, and those you will come home to.

And wash your hands!

Closed Monday, February 17 for Presidents' Day!

University of Utah Honors College Critical Update!!

Utah has joined the Common Application (great news!); unfortunately the Honors College tab is broken right now. I just spoke with admissions, and they're aware, but for now, don't try to submit this application, until the Honors College tab reappears.

Deadline: November 1 is the Utah Honors College Deadline, and they require an essay, but it can simply be your CA Personal Statement. No extra essay this year! Also great news!

What kind of scores and grades do you need for the Utah Honors College? In recent years, a 29/1300 and a 3.9ish seemed to get the job done. NMF students get a full tuition scholarship. Honors College dorms are nice, classes are small and tailored for your interests and abilities.

Stop in at our Drop-In Center if you need help finalizing this application.
