IAPA’s 2021 Annual CME Conference will continue to be in-person with an option to attend virtually. We believe a safe and enjoyable conference can move forward with your help to follow the necessary requirements and local government directives. In an effort to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, full vaccination status against COVID-19 is required of all in-person conference attendees. In the event you are unable to receive a vaccine, a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to your arrival to the conference will be required. Per city ordinances in Sun Valley and Ketchum, face coverings are required regardless of vaccination status. The IAPA will continue to monitor COVID-19 cases and will provide necessary updates in this evolving environment.

COVID-19 hospitalizations hit new record as Idaho health care groups make plea to public

COVID-19 hospitalizations hit new record as Idaho health care groups make plea to public “Health care facilities in Idaho are receiving calls from places like Missouri and Arkansas asking if they can transport patients to our hospitals. Which begs the question, when our surge gets worse, where will we send Idahoans?”

Esteemed Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce that the annual IAPA CME conference for 2021 has been confirmed at the Sun Valley Resort for the following dates; November 11-13, 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic, and recent efforts to establish herd immunity amongst the community via vaccination, it was decided by the board to forgo our normal April meeting and pursue a later date. We are optimistic that delaying the conference into the fall will allow for the current pandemic situation to subside to a more manageable level and provide a safe environment for medical providers across the state to convene in a centralized location. The added benefit of scheduling at a later date is the presence of snow which will allow for additional snow related activities to those who are interested. Additionally, a virtual option will be available to those who are unable to attend the conference in person. Thank you all for your ongoing support and stay tuned for more information. Happy New Year from all of us at IAPA.

Sincerely,
IAPA CME Committee

URGENT! The special legislative session started this morning and there is much maneuvering to weaken or defeat the proposed immunity legislation. Many disparate interests are working against it and hearings will be held in the next several hours.

PLEASE contact your legislators NOW and ask them to support the broadest immunity they are comfortable with - either the original RS or the C1. (They'll know what that means.) Easily contact your legislators by clicking here: https://www.votervoice.net/IDMA/campaigns/76811/respond

If you already contacted them in response to our alert last week, please do it again now. We cannot underestimate the importance of acting quickly. Please also ask your office staff, colleagues, and others to contact legislators as soon as possible.

Governor Little announced a special legislative session that begins August 24. A liability reform bill will be considered that provides immunity for those who make a good faith effort to continue to operate safely during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Your legislators need to hear from you NOW so they know how important this legislation is to you and your practice!

Watch Gov. Little's live press conference about COVID-19 in Idaho. He has extended the stay-at-home order until April 30 with some exceptions.

Idaho Governor Brad Little is scheduled to host a news conference Wednesday at 11 a.m. to provide updates on Idaho's stay-at-home order, which expires on Wednesday, April 15.

We'll stream the press conference live here and on KTVB.COM: https://www.ktvb.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/idaho-coronavirus-latest-watch-gov-brad-littles-stay-at-home-order-update-live-at-11-am/277-a3edd7e7-bd44-41a4-8b1b-bb5320c81a82

In a telephonic town hall hosted by the AARP Tuesday, the governor indicated that a new executive order to be announced at 11 a.m. Wednesday will include "metrics" regarding what the state needs to see before stay-at-home and social distancing directives are eased. He did not indicate any plans to ease or lift a statewide stay-at-home order when the current order expires just before midnight Wednesday.

At KTVB, we’re focusing our news coverage on the facts and not the fear around the virus. To see our full coverage, visit our coronavirus section, here: www.ktvb.com/coronavirus

Drive-up screening

In an effort to decrease patient flow in all Urgent Care, Emergency Department and ambulatory Clinic sites, we will be standing up COVID-19 tents for screening and sample collection for testing. The tents will hold supplies, and patients will stay in their cars for screening, registration and sample collection for testing. Please note: If patients arrive needing medical care, they will be directed appropriately. If patients present and don’t meet the criteria for testing, they will be sent home to conserve resources. Screening and specimen collecting criteria is that you are currently showing symptoms of COVID-19: Fever, cough, shortness of breath. There is no cost for the screening or collection of samples for COVID-19 testing.

The first two tents are being stood up at the sites with the greatest need: St. Luke’s Wood River and St. Luke’s Meridian hospitals. We will be collecting testing kits from ambulatory clinics in Wood River and Meridian, as well as from other sites (i.e.: core lab), and sending these kits to the tents. Patients will no longer be able to get tested in their clinics at these locations. We will continue to transition kits as we stand up tents, city by city. Primary care and general pediatric clinics may keep general supplies in order to still meet flu-testing demands. If COVID-19 screening and specimen collecting is needed, we are directing patients to identified screening locations. This is a recommended practice in order to conserve and optimize staffing and supplies.

The first two tents are being set up Tuesday, March 17. Patients can be screened from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days a week. We will look to expand and/or contract these hours based on demand.

We will stand up a site in Boise on Thursday, and evaluate additional sites in Elmore, Fruitland and Magic Valley to follow. Patients in Jerome should go to Magic Valley for screening and sample collection. Patients in Nampa can be screened at Saltzer’s parking lot located on our St. Luke’s campus in Nampa. We are still evaluating our approach for McCall. This is changing on an hourly basis; stay tuned for updates.
