Week 2 of the Musescore class with Philip Kramer is tonight. Week 1 was great -- here's what one student said, "This was sooo helpful. [Phil] has a great attitude and uses layman’s terms!"

Several weeks ago, we all learned that Finale (one of the most popular music transcription software options for dulcimer players) was no longer going to be available. Here at DulcimerCrossing, we immediately started researching other options.
We learned that MuseScore is one of the best options (and, BONUS, it's free and open source!), so we found an expert to provide some classes for DulcimerCrossing.
Phil Kramer has been using MuseScore for his teaching studio for the past five years. He regularly uses it to create multi-part arrangements and tablature for a variety of instruments.
Starting THURSDAY, he's offering a 5-class series about how to use MuseScore, specifically for dulcimer! Sign up for all 5 classes to save, or choose just one or two ala carte.

We are so excited about this new tool and feature in DulcimerCrossing that I had to make a video to describe it to you!
For those of us who are helped by reading what is being spoken in a video, we have upgraded our platform in order to provide closed-captioning AND transcripts of all of our video lessons in our 220+ courses.
We are creating Transcriptions of all of our over 3,000 videos in the DulcimerCrossing site. Not every lesson has the video displaying the top right corner like this one, but soon they ALL will!
Check out your favorite lesson(s) and see if the transcription is there yet.
Let us know how this helps YOUR learning process be "sticky" so that the lessons are more firmly rooted in your memory!

Meet the Faculty for Chromatic Dulcimer Day: Cyntia Smith
Cyntia Smith is a professional dulcimer player, singer, composer, music arranger and teacher. She has produced, with Ruth Barrett, five critically acclaimed studio albums, plus most recently a debut solo release, Soul Tending. Cyntia performed, toured, taught the dulcimer at festivals, and made albums with Ruth Barrett from 1979 to 2000. Cyntia co-founded the Harvest Festival of Dulcimers and its sponsoring organization, the Southern California Dulcimer Heritage. She served as the artistic director of the festival from 1995 to 2006.
With master luthier Dale Emerson Foye, Cyntia co-created the Ae**us Dulcimer, a hybrid between the classical guitar and the mountain dulcimer. In 1999, Cyntia graduated from Chapman University with a Bachelors of Music in Music Therapy. She has used the dulcimer in her music therapy work in many settings including with abused/neglected teenage girls, persons with Alzheimer's disease, and patients in a psychiatric partial hospitalization.
Cyntia received her Doctorate in World Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2011. Her dissertation, titled "Music, Myth, & Soul Tending," brought the ideas of Music Therapy into the conversation of depth psychology and the use of music to tend soul. Since 2000, Cyntia has served as a board certified music therapist, and currently works as a program director in a non-profit fine arts program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She also enjoys giving private dulcimer lessons online or in studio when possible.
