The Boise State Institute for Advancing American Values presents a school choice panel discussion on Tuesday, November 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Boise State Alumni and Friends Center Ballroom, 1173 University Dr.

Panelists include Representative Wendy Horman, Senator Lori Den Hartog, Senator Janie Ward-Engelking, Audra Talley of Homeschool Idaho, and Joey Magana, Vice President of Policy and Advocacy at EdChoice.

This event is free and open to the public; parking is free at the Alumni Center. This is not an Osher Institute program, and no registration is required. No calls to the Osher Institute or Customer Services, please.

Join us for the last Casual Coffee Social of the fall semester on Thursday, November 7, at the Yanke building, Room 510!

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. for members to mingle and get acquainted. At noon, Advisory Council Chair Bae Emilson will give Osher updates, followed by a brief presentation by artist Rachel Teannalach.

Members are welcome to enjoy refreshments provided by the Osher Baker's Dozen and continue their social visits until 1:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Boise State University’s Institute for Advancing American Values Distinguished Lecture Series presents "How to Know a Person and Its Value for Public Life" with New York Times columnist David Brooks on October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the ExtraMile Arena. The event is free and open to the public.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office presents "A Life Worth Living: A Miraculous Journey of Resilience and Triumph" with retired Army sergeant and author Braxton McCoy on Thursday, October 10, at 1:00 p.m. at the Idaho State Capitol Lincoln Auditorium.

As told in his book, The Glass Factory, Braxton was severely wounded in Iraq and told he may never walk again. After a decade of rehabilitation and over two dozen surgeries, he has regained the majority of his strength, overcome his struggles, and mended his body and mind. Braxton will speak about what it takes to overcome life's challenges.

Day one of the two-day Osher Institute Symposium for Successful Aging is underway! Today's sessions for participants include learning about brain health and dementia, falls prevention, and navigating Medicare, as well as a resource panel of community health experts.

Tomorrow's topics will cover the neuroscience of wellbeing, dental care and healthy aging, intergenerational relationships, and supporting caregivers across the lifespan.
