This fall, Village Leadership Academy will relocate to a new school home at 3006 E. Goldstone Drive in Meridian, Idaho. The new Meridian campus will support Village Leadership Academy’s commitment to hands-on learning, facilitating leadership in students as individuals, and the importance of building a community in and around the classroom.

School leadership said, “We are excited about the opportunities this new facility presents to our community. It will allow us to continue to provide small classes, a safe and close-knit community feeling, and ensure that we can focus on developing today’s leaders as a Leader in Me school. This also marks a new start for our school, ensuring a healthy operational school for the next 5 years.”

For any questions about how this move will impact your child, or to learn more about VLA, please call 208-336-2000.

As a Leader in Me School, we host an annual Leadership Day,. We invite families and community members to experience firsthand the great work happening on our campus. We held our Leadership Day on April 20, 2023. The theme was "Lead Right, Shine Bright". Our goals for this event were:
1. Celebrate group successes.
2. Offer opportunities for students to practice and develop their leadership skills.
3. Teach the 7 Habits® and other leadership skills.
4. Nurture students’ voices.
5. Communicate our mission and vision.
Our goals were met and our students shined in their various leadership opportunities. It was a wonderful event!

Day #1 of Teacher Appreciation Week! Did you take the time to thank a teacher today? It's not too late. Simple handwritten notes, drawings or pictures from students and parents are some of the things teachers treasure the most.

It is Teacher Appreciation Week! At VLA, we have an amazing group of dedicated teachers and staff. Take a few minutes this week to thank your child's teachers, past and present, for all they do.

The VLA fourth-graders had a real hands-on experience understanding how pioneers lived when they attended Wagon's Ho on April 11th. They were able to experience a wagon and were taught how to perform tasks like washing clothes, making butter, lassoing and branding “cattle,” and using tools. The students were expected to work hard and behave like pioneer children, which they did successfully. Wagon's Ho was an amazing adventure that brought to life their year long study of Idaho history. Thank you to VLA's PTO and all who helped to make this possible for the VLA fourth graders.

The 100th Day of School is an opportunity to rejoice in classroom community successes, individual accomplishments, and the pursuit of a love of learning overall. VLA celebrated this day on March 9th. K-2 students were invited to dress as 100 year olds or wear something with 100 things on it. Students met the challenge and an exciting day was had by all!

Literacy Night was a way to celebrate reading with our families. We had teachers reading, activities for families to engage in around literacy, and librarians there for families to sign up for their local library cards. Some students and teachers were dressed as their favorite book characters to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday. Camp Read A Lot was a successful night and fun was had by all attendees!

We are excited to announce that our charter has been renewed for another five years. Board chair Adrian Castaneda said, "I would like to say thank you to my fellow board members, administration, and staff for their dedication. With their effort, we were able to achieve unanimous approval from the Charter Commission to renew our charter with conditions. I am grateful for all their work and the continued support from our teachers and families who have been great examples of the 7 Habits.”

At VLA we strive for each grade level to be involved in service learning. Habit #8 is "Find Your Voice and Inspire to Find Theirs". The fifth grade class participated in a service learning project with CityHope Pantry. They held a food drive to collect food for community members through their Pantry. The 5th grade class set a goal to collect 2,500 items of food. They encouraged the students and families to participate. They wrote letters to stores to ask for donations. They also visited each classroom to collect donations each day. In the end VLA collected 2,366 items of food and helped load it all into the truck for CityHope. Overall the students did a wonderful job leading this service learning project and felt they contributed to their community.

Earlier this school year, our 4th grade students went on their annual field trip to Celebration Park. Stories in Stone is a place-based archaeological experience designed for 4th grade students studying Idaho History. Our students engaged with the rich cultural and natural history of southwest Idaho through a guided tour and interpretive programs that allowed students to immerse themselves in the landscape of Idaho’s first archaeological park, Celebration Park. Thank you to all those who provided this amazing opportunity for our 4th graders.
