Jump up and down if you’re excited to read!!! The excitement in these kids to read, and be read to, was undeniable! We are narrowing down our trip details for next year, and will be opening up applications for next year. Who wants to come along?

We took a moment to pause and reflect today on many things. We are so grateful and full of optimistic hope for our future and creating happiness wherever we travel. We are missing these girls fiercely today. The moments savored in the classrooms and out on our adventures will always be in our hearts. We are so lucky to have such wonderful support from you as well!

We are missing her tortillas like crazy today! We tried our hand at making them in a Mayan cooking class while at Lake Atitlan, and failed miserably. She did this ease as she spoke to us about her life and her home, and how she can bust out well over 100 tortillas a day using this method. Her home was filled with baby chicks, kittens, and children. Sharing her secret in a happy life: surround yourself with the things you love.

Anita showed us how they dye their cotton using vegetables and herbs. This process gives such originality to each creation. We were so intrigued with the process and were so grateful that Anita shared this with us. Check out her Instagram page to learn more!

Take us back! We are missing these wonderful ladies today. As we reflect of our last ten days, we are smiling from ear to ear. These girls are so strong, brave and adventurous. We cannot wait to be together again!

Our last day in Guatemala was nothing short of inspirational. We took a boat to San Pedro, a village on the other side of Lake Atitlan to take a Mayan cooking class by a lady named Anita. Not only did she teach us to make amazing Guatemalan food (including the best guacamole we have ever had), we also go to listen to her story. She told us of her being a single mother fighting to make her own place in her community that is not used to entrepreneurial women in their culture. She was given an opportunity to be a tour guide, then was able to turn an idea into her livelihood with the cooking classes. She now runs a women’s coop, teaches English and hosts cooking classes. As once a community outcast for going her own way is now an icon of love and happiness for the people of her town. After she told her story, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place. What a great ending to such a wonderful trip. Tomorrow, we all venture home.

Today was full of adventure as we took a boat to another village across the lake and hiked through the mountains to a couple of villages. We ate pizza in a town filled with dogs where we shared parts of our pizza waiting for the last boat of the day to arrive and take us back to our town. It was certainly a day to remember!

We left Antigua today to arrive at our last stop at Lake Atitlan. Our house is 300 steps down from the road, but right on the water. We took a couple of Tuk Tuks to Parajachel to get dinner. Everywhere we go we are making new friends and practicing our Spanish. Guatemala is so beautiful we are having a blast!

We have started the adventure part of our trip! Today we said goodbye to Lizza and Silvia after they drove us to Antigua for the day. We were all able to gather together for one last meal on top of the mountain eating at a farm to table restaurant. We all took our very first rides in two tuk tuks to our hotel for the night. We were all laughing the whole way. Tomorrow we venture to Lake Atitlan.
