I am wondering what brand of leave in conditioner you recommend I use on my standard? Also, how about a shampoo brand. He is getting a bit stinky and with COVID-19 shutdown my groomer is not open.
This adorable Poodle was freshly groomed. He is one that is good with his general outdoor potty issues but can have urine holding issues . His mom likes splashy colors so here he is in his thin style belly band. It contains 4 mil. sheet plastic inside and won't ripple up. An incontinent pad is put inside to trap what is made. All will be managed now. https://www.facebook.com/DoggieEssentials

We are moving to Meridian and need a recommendation of a GOOD gentle groomer for my 10 year old Mojo......thank you
Hello everyone.....we will be moving to Meridian at the end of July and I’m in need of a recommendation for a GOOD groomer for my MOJO....he is a 10 year old miniature poodle...
I am looking for a middle aged small standard, miniature, or even very large toy poodle for elderly person. A re-homing from another elderly person who can no longer keep their pet would be ideal.
I am looking for a professional groomer for my Jett.
Any standards up for adoption/ Rehoming?
Add to my recent post a second ago... I want a rescue... but not a puppy...male or female.
I've had two Standards. Looking for my third. Would like to attend the monthly Std. Get Together to meet other Std. Fans and maybe find my new, own Standard. Can someone tell me when and where this monthly event is happening. At least I hope it is still happening.
Im interested in adopting a Standard. Have Had two and looking for my third soulmate.

We started The Standard Poodle Society page to post photos of rescues and re-homes keep you informed about local events of interest to poodle owners

Adopted!!

Meet Darby! Darby is a male, 2-year-old, Standard Poodle. He is 44 pounds.

Darby arrived at the shelter as a stray in an obvious neglectful condition. He is not only underweight, but he was also severely matted and had numerous wounds on his body. He has bilateral ear infections that are now being treated. He was covered in cheatgrass. He is super sweet and packed with potential! He is ready to start over with a second chance at life.

Darby was adopted and recently returned. Darby needs a commitment to training. He has low-confidence. He barks at strangers and other dogs. He will also need an active lifestyle full of mental enrichment as well as physical exercise. Darby has so much potential with the right family!

Assisting Decision-Making on Age of Neutering for 35 Breeds of Dogs: Associated Joint Disorders, Cancers, and Urinary Incontinence

"Poodle, Standard
The study population was 47 intact males, 88 neutered males, 53 intact females, and 87 spayed females for a total sample of 275 cases. The AKC registers the Toy and Miniature, along with the Standard Poodle, as all being Poodles. However, because of differences in size, the varieties of Poodles are dealt with separately here. There was a 2 percent occurrence of joint disorders in both intact males and females. In males neutered at

Assisting Decision-Making on Age of Neutering for 35 Breeds of Dogs: Associated Joint Disorders, Cancers, and Urinary Incontinence Neutering (including spaying) of male and female dogs in the first year after birth has become routine in the U.S. and much of Europe, but recent research reveals that for some dog breeds, neutering may be associated with increased risks of debilitating joint disorders and some cancers, complicating...

“Dogs gonadectomized at ≤ 6 months, between 7 and 12 months, or at > 12 months of age had significantly increased odds of developing mast cell cancer, lymphoma, all other cancers, all cancers combined, and fear of storms, compared with the odds for sexually intact dogs. Females gonadectomized at ≤ 12 months of age and males and females gonadectomized at > 12 months of age had significantly increased odds of developing hemangiosarcoma, compared with the odds for sexually intact dogs. Dogs gonadectomized at ≤ 6 months of age had significantly increased odds of developing a behavioral disorder. The younger the age at gonadectomy, the earlier the mean age at diagnosis of mast cell cancer, cancers other than mast cell, hemangiosarcoma, lymphoma, all cancers combined, a behavioral disorder, or fear of storms.”
*Behavior and physical affects, which shows the correlation between neutering and increased aggression
http://www.atftc.com/health/SNBehaviorBoneDataSnapShot.pdf
“Behavioral characteristics of intact male and female dogs were compared with those of four groups of neutered dogs: those neutered at or before 6 months, between 7 and 12 months, between 13 and 18 months, and after 18 months. Our data showed that the behavior of neutered dogs was significantly different from that of intact dogs in ways that contradict the prevailing view. Among the findings, neutered dogs were more aggressive, fearful, excitable, and less trainable than intact dogs.
In addition, we measured eight individual bone lengths plus the height of 202 agility competition dogs to determine whether gonadectomy affected bone lengths. Preliminary analysis revealed significant differences in bone growth between the intact and neutered groups. These findings strongly support the need for an immediate re-evaluation of the current recommendation to spay or neuter dogs to prevent or treat behavior problems, and an equally pressing need to more fully examine the wide range of physical effects of spaying and neutering pet dogs.”
*Effects of Surgical Sterilization on Canine and Feline Health and on Society
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/.../j.1439-0531.2012.../full
“Incidence of both splenic- and heart-based haemangiosarcoma are reported to be increased in dogs after gonadectomy; in bi***es, splenic haemangiosarcoma risk after OHE increases by a factor of 2.2 and cardiac haemangiosarcoma risk increases by a factor of 5, and in male dogs, overall risk of haemangiosarcoma increases by a factor 2.4 after castration (Prymak et al. 1988; Ware and Hopper 1999). This has not been reported in cats. Breeds at increased risk are the boxer, English setter, German shepherd dog, golden retriever, Great Dane, Labrador retriever, pointer, poodle and Siberian husky (Smith 2003).”
“Osteosarcoma is an uncommon tumour with overall incidence of 0.2% (Root Kustritz 2007). Incidence is increased with gonadectomy, by a factor of 1.3–2 (Priester and McKay 1980; Ru et al. 1998). Breeds at increased risk are the Doberman pinscher, Great Dane, Irish setter, Irish wolfhound, rottweiler and St. Bernard (Ru et al. 1998; Chun and DeLorimer 2003). Other risk factors for osteosarcoma include increasing age and increasing body weight (Ru et al. 1998; Cooley et al. 2002).”
*Gonadectomy effects on the risk of immune disorders in the dog: a retrospective study
https://bmcvetres.biomedcentral.com/.../s12917-016-0911-5
“Patient records (90,090) from the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at the University of California, Davis from 1995 to 2010 were analyzed in order to determine the risk of immune-mediated disease relative to neuter status in dogs. Neutered dogs had a significantly greater risk of ATOP, AIHA, ADD, HYPO, ITP, and IBD than intact dogs with neutered females being at greater risk than neutered males for all but AIHA and ADD. Neutered females, but not males, had a significantly greater risk of LUP than intact females. Pyometra was a greater risk for intact females.”
*A literature review on the welfare implications of gonadectomy of dogs
http://avmajournals.avma.org/.../10.2460/javma.250.10.1155
“The importance of an increased relative risk must be considered along with the overall prevalence of the condition within the population… In addition to the frequency of disease, severity of the disease and availability of effective treatments are also considerations when weighing the risks and benefits of gonadectomy for an individual animal.”

They need their puppy and first year booster. It is much farther until that next booster shot than you think. That said, vaccines that are for viral infections do last longer but things like Bordetella, leptospirosis and Lyme disease still need to be done annually or your pet will not be protected.

Deadly aflatoxin comes from moldy cereal grains (like corn) used to make some dog foods. It can take years before the toxin causes a fatal form of liver cancer in #dogs. Does your favorite brand test for aflatoxin? Sadly, many don't.
