Vote McG for IEA VP

My name is Mary Anne McGrory and I am running for Idaho Education Association Vice President. I know at this time of the year, you don’t need one more lengthy email to read, so I’d like to briefly tell you why you should vote for me for the IEA Vice President:
I am a 30 year veteran public teacher with experience in multiple districts and states.
I am a lifelong activist and advocate for the Association and our members.
I am committed to seeing the Association thrive and become the educational experts of Idaho.
I am passionate about public education and helping to create the schools our students deserve.
My work in the Pocatello local has fostered a desire to move into a leadership position of the IEA.
My Pocatello Education Association presidential terms have prepared me well to segue into the role of the IEA VP.
I invite you to learn even more about me and why I should be the next IEA VP by reading my candidate questionnaire here:
https://idahoea.org/.../VP-2.-Mary-Anne-McGrory-Pocatello...
and joining my page here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/482733722845531.
Thank you and please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have.
In Service and Support
Mary Anne McGrory
Does anyone know who is on the BEA executive board? The BEA website hasn’t been updated since the 2018/2019 school year and teachers don’t know who to contact and the President doesn’t seems to be in way over her head.
As I know some of us don't like to check our emails during the summer😉, I want this to get out there into the universe!

CALL TO ACTION:

PBS stations nationwide will be broadcasting a “documentary” that tells a one-sided story of school privatization as told by Libertarian Andrew Coulson. This three-hour broadcast, called “School, Inc., “ airs nationwide in three PBS broadcasts. It can be best described as anti-public education propaganda.

1. Write your email to PBS by going here. We make it simple.

2. Call PBS and register your complaint and ask that they broadcast Diane Ravitch’s response to School, Inc. and Backpack Full of Cash. Here is the number to call: 1-703-739-5000.

3. Contact your local station and ask them to do the same. If your station has not played the series, ask them not to. You can find your local station’s number here. All PBS stations are independent.

4. Share this post with your pro-education friends.

The Boise Education Association consists of over 1,800 members including classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, custodians, counselors, secretaries and other school district employees.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Corrina Berger, from Timberline High School in Boise who was selected as one of the 2021 SW Idaho SWE Scholarship recipients.

Corrina has had ambitions of becoming an engineer for many years. Being part of her First Robotics Club team, the Chickadees, has been one of the best experiences of her life. She learned and accomplished so much with this team, and was proud to be their co-captain. Band has also been an important part of her life, playing the flute in marching band, concert band, and other ensembles.

She will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall and plans to study mechanical engineering. She is beyond excited to attend her dream school and is looking forward to what the future holds.

"How do Boise School teachers help set students up for success? Well, the first thing they do is they care. So they truly create a relationship with students to help them find the path that they want to take in life. They also are phenomenal teachers, and it doesn't matter what the curriculum, when you have a teacher that's dedicated to that content area, they make sure that their students are engaged and that they enjoy it. They give our kids confidence, they help our students feel like they can do whatever they want to do. They really are just an amazing support system and it all starts there with that relationship with the teacher." — Lisa Roberts, Deputy Superintendent

Have courage! 🍏

"I want students to basically have courage. Once they leave my classroom, there are two things that I want them to be able to do. One is to be a self advocate and be able to ask for help when they need help with a social situation or an academic situation. I want them to understand that they can help themselves by requesting that help." — Tia Newell, teacher Valley View Elementary

Thank you, Doug! Our Foundation is amazing! 🍏

"It never ceases to amaze me the diversity that we have in our district and the embracing of social equity and inclusion that is throughout the entire K through 12 system that we have. I think there's 90-some different languages that are spoken in the Boise School District, and to create all those cultures and do it seamlessly is really a testament to the administration, to our teachers. But what makes me real proud and grateful that my children went through this district is that that is embraced and it's engaged and it's really in the fabric of the district." — Doug Holloway, director of the Boise Public Schools Foundation
