Vote McG for IEA VP

My name is Mary Anne McGrory and I am running for Idaho Education Association Vice President. I know at this time of the year, you don’t need one more lengthy email to read, so I’d like to briefly tell you why you should vote for me for the IEA Vice President:
I am a 30 year veteran public teacher with experience in multiple districts and states.
I am a lifelong activist and advocate for the Association and our members.
I am committed to seeing the Association thrive and become the educational experts of Idaho.
I am passionate about public education and helping to create the schools our students deserve.
My work in the Pocatello local has fostered a desire to move into a leadership position of the IEA.
My Pocatello Education Association presidential terms have prepared me well to segue into the role of the IEA VP.
I invite you to learn even more about me and why I should be the next IEA VP by reading my candidate questionnaire here:
https://idahoea.org/.../VP-2.-Mary-Anne-McGrory-Pocatello...
and joining my page here:

Thank you and please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have.

Does anyone know who is on the BEA executive board? The BEA website hasn’t been updated since the 2018/2019 school year and teachers don’t know who to contact and the President doesn’t seems to be in way over her head.
As I know some of us don't like to check our emails during the summer😉, I want this to get out there into the universe!

CALL TO ACTION:

PBS stations nationwide will be broadcasting a “documentary” that tells a one-sided story of school privatization as told by Libertarian Andrew Coulson. This three-hour broadcast, called “School, Inc., “ airs nationwide in three PBS broadcasts. It can be best described as anti-public education propaganda.

1. Write your email to PBS by going here. We make it simple.

2. Call PBS and register your complaint and ask that they broadcast Diane Ravitch’s response to School, Inc. and Backpack Full of Cash. Here is the number to call: 1-703-739-5000.

3. Contact your local station and ask them to do the same. If your station has not played the series, ask them not to. You can find your local station’s number here. All PBS stations are independent.

4. Share this post with your pro-education friends.

The Boise Education Association consists of over 1,800 members including classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, custodians, counselors, secretaries and other school district employees.

Growth. Perserverence. Thank you, Mr. Bevis! 🍏

"The first rule of teaching is 'Do no harm.' I want them to be better off than they were before. I want them to be better thinkers. I want them to love words, be better writers, and I want them to love reading ... You get to live multiple lives if you're a reader. And I think that that can help them in their lives down the road." — Mr. Bevis, an eighth grade English teacher at South Junior High

Building relationships... one student at a time! 🍏

"My philosophy is that every student can learn, but they may not learn the same way or in the same day. And the most important thing is that I build those relationships first. I don't believe they can truly learn without a relationship built." — Ms. Balmer, a fourth grade teacher for the Boise Online School

"I'm thankful for a lot of things. I'm thankful that I have a loving family and loving friends that are always there for me and support me in everything I do. I'm also thankful I get an education so I can learn and go on to do good things in the world. I'm also thankful that I'm able to participate in climate change awareness, helping register people to vote, all that stuff. I'm thankful I can give back to the people that give to me." — Emma, a 9th grader at North Junior High

Thank you for your advocacy!!! Members- you did this! 🍏

HB 221 today. This is the bill that would allow districts to “self-certify” as a teacher anyone who is 18 years old and has a bachelor’s degree. Tell members of the Senate Education Committee to respect educators as professionals and vote NO on HB 221.

Not only is this bill completely disrespectful to those of you who have made education your profession and your vocation, but it short-changes students, especially in rural areas. Every student deserves to have a well-trained, highly qualified teacher in their classroom. Idaho does have a teacher retention problem because of low compensation and difficult working conditions. HB 221 would not do anything to address those root causes. In fact, it would exacerbate them.

"I've known most of my friends since kindergarten. We’ve gone through every grade together. I feel like (here at Borah) everyone’s friends with everyone which is super awesome. My friend group specifically always jokes about all the diversity and all the culture we have in our group - the different religions, different races. It helps me to understand different perspectives." — Payton, recent graduate from Borah High
