We only have 1/2 our crew today and we have been all about building! They didn’t want to go outside or do sit down learning today. Their attention is focused on imaginary play so that’s what we did! Cooperative play is a very important part of school readiness. Playing = learning!

The past 2 weeks we learned about the letters I & J, color purple, the number 6, and our shape was a triangle. We did lots of coloring and cutting too! As always, learning is built into our day but playing will always be a priority. Little ones learn so much through play and those valuable lessons help prepare them for success in their elementary school years. The children get to choose if they want to do sit down learning, play in a group or solo play. All of these choices play an important part of kindergarten readiness.

We had a very smooth first full week back from winter break! The weather was mild so we played outside for a couple hours each day. The letter T was introduced along with the color green. We mostly played and did reviews to ease back in. The kids all missed each other and needed playtime together!

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! We are busy getting everything in order before we open back up. Walls and floors are being scrubbed, lots of reorganizing, adding a new center, touch up painting and more. We miss you all and can’t wait to see you soon!!

D was our letter last week along with the color pink and the number 3. Again we spent a lot of time outside playing before the cold sets in. We will still play outside in the winter but it will be shorter amounts at a time.

Weather is beautiful today! We spent about 2.5 hours out before nap.

Last weeks letter was A and shape was star. We used stickers for the little ones to help with that fine motor and hand eye coordination. Plus they are super fun!
Our Seasons lesson started with Fall/Autumn. You might hear your little one refer it to as the silly season because it has two names!
One way I am able to teach and still give plenty of playtime is by spreading out lessons. In a traditional preschool all four seasons might be taught during a week or two. I will spend three-four. I will concentrate on lessons that are important for being ready for kindergarten. Seasons is a great way to help your child learn how to independently dress themselves. We wear different clothing for different seasons. I also try to keep in mind what is being taught in kindergarten and try not to teach it unless it’s beneficial for readiness.
Our goal is to be socially and emotionally ready, be able to independently dress ourselves and follow directions. Knowing basic skills like cutting, proper pencil grip and gluing are also mastered.
